My mom applied last year, but she was refused; the officer said she was not convinced my mom has strong ties to the Philippines.

She tried again this year, and was granted a 10-year multiple entry visitor visa.

The documents your parents would need are listed on the US Embassy Website: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhniv1.html

They both need to fill out the DS-160 forms online. The fee is US $140 per person, payable in Peso to BPI.

If there is anything else I can help you with, you can send me a message :)

Hi! We are still on the process of helping my mom to come over here in US through tourist visa. She already filled out the DS 160 application online and she's scheduled to have her interview at the US Embassy Manila on September 22nd. Can you give me some tips on how my momma can show strong ties to home and what are the documents that my mom should bring on her interview so she will have the great chance to be approved by the Consul? I want my mom to be here with us too as support when I will give birth on October. I would appreciate any helpful inputs. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I just would like to share my parents' experience when they applied the tourist visa.

My parents did their interview just very recently, August 19, 2011 and they got declined for tourist visa. My parents received a checklist of reasons why they are denied, and the consul encircled one: failed to establish ties to go back to the philippines. He said that "you do not qualify this time, you can apply again anytime."

Me and my husband don't really understand the consul's decision to not approve my parents in related to the "ties." We are 6 siblings in the family (I am the oldest, married and live in Hawaii with our son and 2 months pregnant) and our youngest is 10 years old. The consul asked my parents who is going to watch my little sister and they told that it would be my grandmother (my dad's mother). My parents both are currently working in the government, my mother is a clerk in Engineering Department of our municipality. My dad works in government college in my town for 23 years and plan keep working until retirement for better benefits. They own a hpme and land in my town. The consul did ask how much my dad's salary. We thought these would be strong enough to prove that my parents will go back because many I know that got approve don't have that much too, not even have a very young one who still needs to be attended to, but they got approve.

My parents are not ready to migrate in the US. My mother can't leave my yougest sister until atleast she's old enough to handle herself. That's why we really want this tourist visa, so they can atleast see me, and my kids, and where we live, for even just couple of weeks. Not all consul just can't see that value in our lives, unfortunately. But we are not giving up and I'm glad to read stories of success of tourist visa here, in the second time around. My husband is even willing to pay for attorney but we are still looking into what else we can do.

So don't be discourage with my post, I just want you to give a little bit of idea. I wish us good luck in this journey. :)

Ellen
