If your family can get a landline or even a cellphone, you can always get Vonage unlimited calling to the Philippines. It cost me $64.99, not including all the taxes they add to it. If they have no internet connection, then cellphone or landline is the best bet.

I only use our regular phone from comcast.... Fee is not really that bad. Once in awhile their's a signal problem in comcast, specially that my parents live in a province so I try calling them through my verizon cellphone, and fee is actually also just about the same. Was thinking to try magic-jack, but my husband thought that the signal would not gonna be that good. I call in Philippines probably atleast twice or three times a week and we pay around $20 to $40 a month extra on international calls.

Everyone is talking about cost. NO ONE is talking about CALL LOGS which are needed at USCIS interviews.

A good advice is for Kano to go thru his CABLE CO. for INTERNATIONAL CALLING PLAN, and get professional phone logs delivered to him each month in his cable bill, no muss no fuss.

When you cut corners and going on the cheap, that is what you will end up with. :crying:

Getting less than .16/min to mobile phones in the Phils is as low as you can reasonably expect to get because the rates are set by the Phil Gummint, so why not get great phone logs from the cable co and not from "Phone Calls R Us" fonecards.

You get what you pay for.

Good Luck!

I use Tawagpinas.com for calling which includes call logs for 30 days. Every 30 days I print the logs. $0.12/minute landline and $0.14/minute Cell. If you decide this method is good for you, Please use my referral code - 6zpzz1. It has worked well for me. Call quality is good. Sometimes I have connection issues once the call is transferred to the Philippines system. If it says "all circuits busy now....." I just wait and the call goes through within a minute most of the time.

12/24/10 - First communication with Hanilyn (Facebook and email)

1/25/11 - First Airline Tickets and hotel booked to see Hanilyn (we were already in love)

3/15/11 - Started Journey to see Hanilyn

3/16/11 - Met Hanilyn for the first time in person

3/17/11 - Officially engaged

3/29/11 - Returning home and leaving Hanilyn was sad for both of us. We wanted to be together then.

4/15/11 - NOA1

4/25/11 - Second trip to Manila purchased using miles

8/12/11 - NOA2 email arrived

8/15/11 - Leave for Manila

8/25/11 - Return to US and waiting on corrected Birth Certificate

12/27/11 - Recieved the Finality Paperwork for the Birth Certificate

1/2/11 - Delivered the Finality Paperwork to the NSO in Manila. Waiting again.

rebtel will give you call logs each month to detail all calls that were made and to what number. Its good for someone that isnt constantly on the phone. Most of the unlimited plans I cant get because I am in alaska. My wife doesnt call that much to the PI...she mostly does skype video chat to her family.

Rebtel is basically 11 cents a min to landline and 16 cents a min to cell phone. There are no connect fees and call quality is pretty good. We have had only a couple of problems with it in the nearly 3 years we have been using it.

tell her to use globe sim card and register here Globe Super US Direct

"Super U.S. Direct provides registered Globe Prepaid and Postpaid numbers a virtual U.S. landline number, which can be used to receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world. The service will provide the subscriber's U.S. contacts a more affordable calling rate compared to the standard IDD call to the Philippines. On the other hand, non-U.S. numbers who call that virtual U.S. number will be charged their respective standard IDD rates to the U.S."

it will cost her 699 pesos but it will save you from having expensive phone charges as she will have a US phone number. and you will be charge local phone rate.

im using the free 30 days trial of magic jack. so calling his phone is free!

hope this helps! :)
