Original or the copy?

I know this probably should be in the k-visa section but I wanted peoples experience who have been through the London embassy rather then getting confused with other countries systems and wants. I'm also not too up on knowing which letter is which code wise so you'll have to forgive me!

Basically i'm filling in and sending off all my forms to support my k-visa application to the embassy, so i'm filling out all the DS 156, 156k etc etc forms.

On the DS156 with sending your evidence it states "the following documents must be attached" birth certificates, evidence, police forms. Now is this the originals [because i'm kinda weary about posting my birth certificate off] or just photocopies? Plus I need to keep my police form because I have my medical booked for the 23rd August so i'm not really sure.

I'm really getting confused with these forms!

I ordered half a dozen Birth Certs just so I had enough.

"Copies. Unless specifically required that an original document be filed with an application or petition, an ordinary legible photocopy may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not required will remain part of the record, even if the submission was not required."

Direct quote from the instruction page of most of the forms we will be submitting during this entire process. So NEVER submitt an original unless specifically asked to--i.e. the forms themselves with an original signature. Take originals to the interview and have a copy they can keep, but do not give up the originals if at all possible. So unless the instructions specifically say "submit original copies of..." a photocopy may be submitted.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I've been going around in circles lately with it all. I kept thinking it was a bit risky [in case it gets lost or ends up in the wrong hands] when it comes to sending the originals. But that is good!

Just send the forms. London does not require or want you to send in what it says on the DS-156. You will show them all of that on interview day.

You didn't get a London answer from the Kazakhstan reply. For LONDON do not send any documents with the form despite what the form itself says. I'm 1000% positive on this. Read the instructions they give you on the Embassy website.

http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

Step 1 - send the forms

Step 2- Gather you documents. Listed here http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html and a different list here http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html Then send DS2001 with cover letter.

Scroll down and you will find

On the day of the visa interview, you will be required to bring all of your original documents, or certified copies, plus one photocopy to the visa interview. Click on "The Interview" and "Visa Fees"on the left-hand Navigation bar for further information.
