Remember my calf Lovey that I saved when her Mama rejected her back in February and I found her half-dead in the field? Well.....she died last month during the terrible heat wave we had here in Virginia. Her little body just couldn't take it. :(

And then just a week and a half ago the cow that I'd hand-raised 5 years ago, Bessey died from complications of a pregnancy. Broke my heart. :crying:

I swore then to my husband that that was IT, I'm done with cows and calves and anything to do with them cuz I can't distance myself from them and when things go wrong as they sometimes will on a farm, my emotions end up paying the price.

Tuesday, one of the cows in the herd died of old age. But oh gee, wouldn't ya know it...she had a calf a month old.

Soooooo...guess who's surrogate mama yet again.

Meet Pokey....lol...

Who I am doing my utmost to NOT get close to. He's a steer. And one day in about a year or so, he will either be sold or end up on my plate.

*by the way, in the pic, my hair was still wet cuz I'd just had a shower...it's really not stringy, ok? haha*

Awww...everyday on my drive to work I pass a farm with cows and I get so excited and think about what it would be like to own a farm. I'm sure it's a lot of work so that's why I imagine how cool it would be. I don't think I would be able to eat them though...

We tend to rescue animals in our family and one time we raised a baby pigeon that was attacked by a crow and one day we came home from school and my mom had decided it was time to let it go while we were away and wow did I cry...it's hard not to get attached to them...

And I am sure your hair is bouncy and beautiful...

Awwww...Sharon. I remember helping to bottle feed the calves my brothers raised for FFA, and how the calf would lunge into the bottle almost knocking me down while it drank (I was about 9 at the time). When it was my turn (4H), I chose to raise a goat (Strawberry) and I helped her deliver her kid (Albert). Those are experiences every child should go through. :star:

AWWWWWW, he's sweet (F) I grew up on a farm and am very familier with raising the steers only to be on our dinner plate later. :crying: Try not to get attached to the little booger, although it's gonna be hard.
