I know this is yesterday's news, but I don't agree with this. That was a good policy. I am all about the freedom of living your life the way you want to, but how are the straight Men and Women going to handle this that are serving already? I have no doubts that a gay person could handle the job of being a serviceman or woman, but the reaction of the majority is going to be harsh.

Did you know the Philippines allows openly gay persons to serve in the military? Ask your wife if that's caused any problems for them.

She's from an island with no electricity and no running water. If I asked her in Russian I would get the same response.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

 Ok. Well, ask her how gays are treated in the Philippines. While there still may be some discrimination, overall, Filipinos understand and accept that gays are born gay. My wife had a lot of classmates and friends, both male and female who were gay. Everyone knew they were gay and no one had a problem with it.

Yea I have noticed over there that they are accepted. I just think it's a bad idea in the US military. I think it is possible, but not in this day and age. I don't think a gay person would survive in the Marine Corps around a bunch of fun bag loving guys. I think the don't ask don't tell was a good policy to keep people safe.

If they had this gay policy back when I joined, I wouldn't have joined.

I understand. I personally feel that there needs to be separate barracks, if it's going to be an open policy.

Or even better yet imo, don't let them join.

There are a couple of gay fellows at my work, but you would never know they were gay unless they flat out told you. They would make it in the military for sure, but they would end up getting their arsses kicked by everyone else. I just don't think the military society is ready for that. Maybe in a hundred years, but not now.

Yes there are still bigots in the Military, just like civilian life. But that doesn't mean such behavior should be condoned. The Military has means to deal with soldiers harassing or attacking fellow soldiers.
