I received an email saying this:

“We received the Affidavit of Support Processing Fee payment(s) for this case. You must now download and complete the Affidavit of

Support form(s). Please visit the following website to download the appropriate Affidavit of Support form(s) and instructions:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3197.html

We received the Immigrant Visa Processing Fee Payment(s) for this case. You must now download and complete the Immigrant Visa

Application for the principal applicant and each derivative applicant that will accompany him/her to the United States. Please visit

the following website for instructions on how to obtain and submit the Immigrant Visa Application:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html”

about the visa application...

I have some doubts and question about this form which NVC has requested me to complete.

One of the documentations required for the ds-230 is the police certificate, i dont have problem getting it,

but here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

under: "Police Certificates" on the table, says:

"An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority:"

What do they mean with "local police authority"?

and if i:

"lived in a different part of your country of nationality for more than 6 months"

Question/Doubt 1

What does that mean? if have i lived for more than 6 months in a different region/state of my country?

Question/Doubt 2

I have been living in the same place for the last 30ys, but before that i lived in several places, do i have to get a police certificate for each of those places?

Question/Doubt 3

In my country, they (police) told me that even if get a police certificate from any of those places, it will say the same. So would it be ok with only one?

Question/Doubt 4

In the DS-230, below the number 32 says:

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States

I have recently retired, im planning to live from my pension, and with the sales or rent of my house, to buy or rent a house in United States… but if i get a part time job in a nice grocery It would not be bad… so what do I have to write there?

Question/Doubt 5

i don't understand the usage of the Cover sheets... once i complete the ds-230, do i have to print the IV cover sheet, put it in front of the DS-230 and civil documents and send it to the address the coversheet says? am i right?

Just get 1 Police certificate, that will be enough.

Excellent!, thanks "Ryan H" and "elkhris"!

Now in 31ª and 31b:

“31a Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will accompany you to the United States now

31b Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will follow you to the United States at a later date.”

31a

Since my son does not apply for CSPA im will be going alone, but since he already has tourist visa, he could travel with me in my first trip as a legal inmigrant in case I get the visa, but only for a short visit because it’s a tourist visa. Does that count?

31b, what do dey mean with “who will follow you to the United States at a later date”

I don’t understand what they mean with this… if I fill a petition for my son in case I get the IV…? is that what they mean? If so, what if he gets the IV not through me, example; if my son gets a visa through a work contract, if he get married with an US citizen, or if his father fill a 1-130 for him… does that count?

Those questions are mainly regarding people (spouse or children) who would be eligible to get a derivative visa based on your primary visa. People who are eligible for a derivative visa may apply for and obtain a visa and accompany the primary visa holder to the US, or they may apply later (usually up to a year after the primary visa holder receives a visa) and follow to join the primary visa holder in the US.

You didn't mention what sort of visa you're getting (there are several different kinds of immigrant visas), but from what you've said it doesn't sound like anyone is eligible for a derivative visa in your case. You don't have to list anyone in section 31. Your son accompanying you with his own tourist visa isn't relevant.

Oh ok, now that you mention that i didn't mentioned the type of visa... it will sounds funny, and sorry for my ignorance but how do i know what type of visa im applying for? i only know my father filled a i-130.

I have a question on the DS-230 question # 35. If there were multiple previous visits to US, do I need to attach a separate sheet to list them? Three lines are enough. Let me know please.

Thanks.

If the number of visits can fit in those lines you don't need to attach any sheet.

Do i have to legalize and/or notarize the police certificate?

In the address for specific documents from my country says nothing about it;

http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=8979#docs

i ask that because things here (in my country) change constantly (with the same bad result) and i heard that there are two legalization (i still don't understand how can exist two legalization for THE SAME documents that came from the government itselft's institution) and i wanted to know if do i need any of them....

If your father is a US citizen then it would be an IR-1 visa. If he's a green card holder then it would be an F2B visa. I'm presuming you're well over 21 years old since you said you were retiring.

You'll have to refer to the consulate instructions for your country. General information about records from the Dominican Republic can be found here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=8979

The Department of State doesn't mention anything about getting the police record "legalized" or notarized.

Any documents which are not in English must be translated.

Sorry, my head must have been somewhere else. IR-1's are for spouses of US citizens. IR-2's are for minor children.

If you're unmarried then it's an F1 visa. If you're married then it's an F3 visa.
