As the titles reads, I arrived 4 weeks ago on an IR-1 (my GC arrived today!), but I still have not received my SSN in the mail. I ticked the box on my DS-230 asking for one to be generated/sent to me, how long does it usually take?

I don't have time during the day to go to my local SSA Office and I knew I wouldn't which is why I ticked the box for it to be sent to me :(

mostly it takes 3 weeks but u can wait 4 weeks if u want

Its common even all people clicked the box some of them did not received it ( just like me )

So i went to local SSA office and applied one it took a week me to receive SSN

If u cant go to the local SSA office then give time but i would not wait that long

good luck

Usually if you check off for the SSN on the DS-230/DS-260 and it's been 3+ weeks since POE, then most people go to their local SSA and apply.

If you can't get to an SSA while they're open, you can always send in the documents needed and the SS-5 form by mail.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/

Anyone that has checked off on the DS-230 to be assigned an SSN and arrived after July 8th needs to go into a Social Security office to apply. There is a DHS computer problem and SSA hasn't been receiving the information to assign SSNs.

Where'd you hear that?
