No apartment lease

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I rent an apartment, but we don't have a lease or any kind of rental agreement. We rent from a friend. We only have rental receipts and utility receipts for each month's payment.

What can we do to prove that we live together?

We asked for one when we agreed to rent this apartment, but he refused... He said that he didn't want to be tied in a lease...

It doesn't have to be tied to anything its just to show that you live there and you are renting from him.

1. GO to Office Max, Staples or Office Depot or online and pick up a lease agreement.

2. Fill it out. stipulate that the agreement can be broken at anytime and for any reason. that way he is not tied to anything.

3. Sign it you both and the leaser

4. You are now proud owners of an apartment lease agrement.

It amazes me what kind of stuff people go through.

You need much more than a joint lease. You need proof of living and co-mingling your lives for 2 years. The proof you have needs to span the 2 years.

They mostly want to see proof of co-mingling living together, joint bank / credit card, joint taxes, join insurance etc.
