You shouldn't have any problems. KLM/Air France is top notch! I always prefer to fly them. Keep the documents and envelope on hand in carry on bag. The x-ray can be checked into luggage, I guess. I was never asked for that but at the point of entry, they will again open one of the envelopes with your documents to review. This happens in your country before you leave as well.

You carry the envelope with you on carry on luggage and your x ray goes in your suitcase. When you reach USA at customs you will hand over the envelope and customs will open it and check it and ask you a few questions and that's it. Your envelope will not be opened at France at all as said before only when you arrive in USA.

This is wrong the envelope does not get opened in home country at all only when entering USA.
