Long story short.. I've never been treated so poorly.. I was treated like an inmate!!! I could type for hours about what happened and what was said but it's no use. With the exception of two people working at the consulate (one being the fellow who interviewed me) where completely rude! The sad thing is I had absolutelly everything I needed. The fellow before me didn't have anything he needed and was treated like an angel!!! Anyways... I went back and got my visa and everyone was sooooo wonderful!!!!!:wacko::wacko::wacko: Anyways, I was issued my visa at 2pm after my interview scheduled at 10 am. The entire process took 2.5 hours, then I had to go back and waited 45mins for the visa.

Hate to say it but this really makes me wonder why I'm leaving Canada.... luckily I have a wonderful husband because that's the ONLY reason i'm moving to the US. I really can't wait until we can return to Canada (my husband has an 8 yo down there so he can't move here for another 10 years).

Bittersweet, congrats on your visa, but get used to this type of behavior. It is the norm not the exception here, and wonder, as you, why people continue to come to a place where so many people are too unhappy to be civil to each other. And yes for those of you who say "Love it or leave," alot of people are and many more planning to. I wish you the best with your husband.

Wow! I am actually surprised because I have only hear that Vancouver is really nice and friendly. Now I am worried for my interview in a couple weeks! You said the actual interviewer was nice didn't you? So the guards were not so nice? What were some of the questions?

Congrats on your visa!

Sad thing is i think that its just immigration as a whole. I went through Canadian immigration in 2003/2004 and was treated the same way...like i was some sort of criminal coming to invade Canadian soil. I never felt so alone and beat down but thankfully like you i have a wonderful husband and it was worth coming to Canada for him. Now we have decided we want to live in the states and I think to myself now we have to go through all this ####### again :( I'm proud to be American and I love my country but I love Canada to and I'm glad I lived here because i learned alot about myself. In our case we have more options in the US.

I wish you the best and congrats again on your visa

Hmm .. I had a very good experience @ Vancouver consulate .. the guards were kind they held the elevator so that my son could use the washroom first / chatting to me the whole time .. smiling and helpful .. the lady who took our paperwork was polite ( so nice she kept telling my daughter how beautiful she is ) .. and the man who interviewed me was also nice! It's too bad you didn't have a good experience .. For anyone else going through Vancouver i wouldn't worry ;)

Think thats the first bad experience I have read from Vancouver. Guess everyone was having a bad day!! Personally if I had a crappy team like the Canucks to root for, I would be grumpy as well, lol Congrats

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Grrrrrrrrr :)

Canucks rule ... Well I hope that's the case this year anyways :)

And I had an excellent experience when I went through Vancouver on June 9, 2006 ... They were soooo friendly from the first guard to the officer who interviewed me to the officer who gave me my Visa when I had to return later that day ....

I was given a hard time too - to the extent that my now husband decided to come with me to the interview instead of waiting at the Starbucks.

It was mostly the security guards - but it's done! grats!

Officially a citizen. My journey took 6 years, 6 months, and 29 days

Aye Flames, in the two years I have been keeping an eye on our two consulates this is the first negative experience I have heard about Vancouver.

Sorry you had a bad experience alecarosa, but congratulations on your visa!!! :)
