Just wanted to share an experience that happened over the last weekend. Myself and wife(K-1, now adjusting status,EAD and AP approved, interview 8/23/2011)took a trip with a relative of ours to Canada, well we were trying to go to Montreal, Canada. We were stopped at the Canadian border. They required my wife to have a visa. We were turned back, they told me I can proceed, however wifey cannot go , so we both turned back overnighted in Plattsburg, NY and returned home the next day. Please do not go to Canada until your Green card is approved and in your hand. Just wanted to share an experience. Anyone else have similar experiences, feel free to comment.

Yes, Greencard holders do not need a visa to enter Canada, but someone with AP is not a Greencard holder, and will need a proper visa.

So scary! My husband has green card but it expires this month, so we will be traveling to Canada on a green card extension document later this month. The VJ community has assured us that it'll be ok, but I'm fully expecting it to be a huge hassle.

Your husband is a GC holder. There is no issue. The OP's wife was not a GC holder.
