My wife and I submitted an I-130 petition at the US Embassy in Manila in June. Since then I flew to the US to enlist in the US Navy. My wife who is still in the Philippines just received a letter from USCIS stating that our I-130 petition has been approved. They are now requesting for her to submit an I-485 form together with approval letter. She has 30 days to do it.

My question is when will we have to submit the I-864 form (Affidavit of Support) together with financial documents? Do we get a certain time frame for us to submit it? Or can we submit it anytime?

In Ireland, I had to bring the I-864 to interview. Are you sure they requesting the I-485? That is normally for adjustment of status in the USA, say after a K1 visa.

???? if you are a DCF for a IR-1/CR-1, why would they ask for a I-485??? your not adjusting status............you'll still have to do the I864 and the DS-230 but not with the NVC......that will be giving to the embassy, i'd surely check on that other for sure........GL

Sorry, they did not request for me to submit an I-485 form. What they said in the letter is that the US consulate will be contacting my wife to give her instructions on how to get a visa. I just wonder how they are going to contact her and when? Does anybody know this?

Thanks for the replies. Really appreciate it.

We just received our Packet IV instructions. They asked us to mail (Fedex) the documents needed at the interview on the list at least a week before the interview date. The list includes the support affidavit.

So, after you send in the Packet III (the application basically) then a few weeks later they will send in a Packet IV with the medical documents, interview date, and list of things needed for the interview. You are supposed to mail the documents in (including the medical results) before the interview (they asked for originals but I called and said no friggin way we were mailing original birth certificates, marriage certificates, and passport) and they said fine no problem send copies and bring the originals to the interview).

Hope that helps
