"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Are they? I don't think anyone here knows exactly who has clicked the 'Like' button on that page or why they did it. You are assuming a serious political motivation for this, when a lot of these types of things on Facebook are driven by humour.

So no, I don't think it is a good example of what you said. Those are your personal biases creeping in.

What personal biases oh great one? Do you not think our education system stinks? Do you not think people spend more time on Facebook then they do with their childrens education?

You're seeing what you want to see.

People like a Facebook page, an act that takes about a second of someone's time and from this you craft an elaborate fantasy about deficient parenting and poor public education.

I'm not saying you're wrong - but it's not exactly a compelling argument is it.

Mom accused of playing on Facebook while baby died

By Keith Coffman

DENVER | Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:26pm EST

(Reuters) - A Colorado mother who told police her 13-month-old son drowned in the bathtub while she was playing a game on Facebook was charged on Friday with child abuse resulting in death.

Shannon Johnson, 34, was advised of the charge against her via a video hookup from the jail where she is being held on a $100,000 bond, said Jennifer Finch, spokeswoman for the Weld County District Attorney's Office.

Johnson requested a public defender during the brief hearing and another hearing was set for later in the month, Finch said.

Under questioning by police after the boy died at a Denver-area hospital last September, Johnson admitted she placed the baby in the bathtub and went into another room to play the Facebook game "Cafe World."

She also checked in with friends and watched videos on the site while the boy bathed alone, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

When she didn't hear any sounds from the boy after 10 minutes, she found him slumped over face down in the bathwater making "gurgling" sounds, the affidavit. Johnson then called 911, and the boy was airlifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from drowning.

When police arrived at Johnson's home in Fort Lupton, Colorado, they found a laptop opened to Facebook.

Johnson told police that she frequently left the boy unattended in the bathtub because he was "independent," he liked to be left alone, and she didn't want him to be a "mama's boy," according to the affidavit.

Police also questioned the boy's grandmother, who said he suffered a seizure while she was baby-sitting him a month before he died. She told police she warned her daughter about leaving her grandson alone in the tub after the seizure.

When police asked Johnson about the wisdom of leaving a young child with a history of seizures alone in water, Johnson admitted that "it was so stupid."

She faces up to 48 years in prison if convicted.

Kip, that has very little (absolutely nothing, in fact) to do bald assumptions about the belief system and behaviour of people who liked a Facebook page about Bert and Ernie.

There have been many other conversations/debates about which children’s characters are gay. Remember the TeleTubbies? It is a waste of time. Does their sexual orientation matter? Does anyone’s sexual preference matter to anyone besides the person and their partner or partners? They are Human Beings and I am not interested (nor is it any of my business who they are with). If you are not saying I am wrong then do you mean that you agree with me and just like to comment about my arguing skills?

It matters if you're pushing the gay agenda and want people to see gayness everywhere.

I thought what I said was pretty clear.

I've said what I think about Bert and Ernie, I've also said that this Facebook "petition" isn't something that should be assumed to be serious.

What I'm disagreeing with you over is the apparent assertion that the number of likes that facebook page received somehow says something informative about the mindset or parental competence of anyone. That is a purely subjective, biased opinion.
