i passed the interview on august 3. it was easy and fast. the officer was nice to me and seems friendly.

she gave me a letter states that" A decision cannot be made yet" .

she explains that it s just because i have still have 5 days left before it rounds 5 years.

at the interview i also changed my name. she didn't say they need any further documents from me.

she told me wait about 30 days to get the decision letter or something.

did i mess up my case ? i know when change name in N400 process will delay the case. and i had interview early .

i checked on their web site on the same day i had my interview the status shows " Request for evidence"

Request for Evidence" . i m worried because my brother just had his interview and the oath is 2 days away ( he didn't change his name, and his interview is few days after 5 years) . i called them they said call them back if i didn't receive the RFE letter after 15 days.

what was your experience ? i would not worry if the status says something else rather than " Request for Evidence" . i still can't image what more do they need from me? i m 23 full time student, single, never travel outside U.s, no income tax, no crime history, everything clear, already registered for Selective service since high school.

what do you think about this situation ?

I had exactly the same experience. My interview went well except that was held before my 5-year anniversary. I got an email stating they sent me a RFE on the same day. But I did not receive anything in mail. Instead, a week later, they sent me another email saying that they received what was requested in the RFE. then, next day, they sent me an oath letter.

By applying early, you created a hiccup which now slows you down a week or two.

For that reason I advise people not to file 90 days early, but only 80 to 75. You don't want to be faster than the law allows.

This has nothing to do with your name change, b.t.w.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
