Hi to everybody:

I am about to start my AOS process, but I have a doubt about the name change.

This is the thing I when to the Social Security Office with my marriage certificate to change my name, but they said that they cant do it because I have to have my green card first, I know some ppl change their name and they have no problem, but I also know that sometimes this process depends on the state that you are applying in so there might things deferent. ( I am in Louisiana Btw )

the thing is that in my marriage certificate it has my maiden name and my husband's so should I send the forms on for the aos with my married name or my maiden name?

my concerned is that is I apply with my married name that person legally doesn't exist yet so how they will print a green card under that name. I hope this makes any sense :P

I hope I can get some advices back from VJ member.

Thank you for everything and good luck to everybody

XOXO

With your marriage certificate in hand, SSA should have been able to change your name unless your I-94 expired or had less than 2 weeks left on it. Regardless, I would file the AOS with your married name as your marriage certificate would be a valid document for the name change.

You file your AOS in your married name and then when you get your GC you can go and change your name on SS card. This is what all of us do. You can then also have the work auth taken off SS card. I was able to change my SSN after marriage as my I-94 had not expired so when I applied for it I was able to get it i my married name.

Divorced !st November 2012.
