POE after K1 Approval!!! now what? :)

Fiance has been approved, made her POE at Pearson International in Toronto a week ago.....

I couldn't find the link to what we need to do next on here.....want to get married and for her to get her work visa.....

I've heard you should apply for SSN about 10 days after POE, someone with more experiance in the matter maybe has some better advice tho

Should the SSN be applied for before or after marriage? Does it matter?

Doesn't terribly matter. If you're the female (or a male who is changing their name) and you are changing names, if you are getting married close to the date you'd want your SSN, you may as well wait; otherwise, you'll just have to go back there to change your name on it.

I got my SSN after marriage before AOS. There are lots of posts saying conflicting things about the office letting them do this. I had no problems getting my SSN in my married name though.

Applied for AOS after that.

We married about 2 weeks after POE and then once I had the marriage cert I completed AOS and then applied for SSN (with marriage cert in hand) so that I could get the SSN in my new married name (obviously not an issue if she plans to keep her maiden name)

You will likely need to wait more then 10 days to apply for the SSN though - she needs to be in their system after the POE and it takes a couple weeks, sometimes more (although sometimes less).....

Sometimes you need the SSN to be added to the spouse's benefits, but if not there is no huge rush...she isnt't going to be working that soon anyway

Its not a work visa. Go read the AOS guide. There are NO MORE VISAS involved in this process. You get an EAD card if you apply for it, which generally comes before the green card. The EAD card is then void once you have the green card.

Part of your AOS is the I765 form which is the Employment authorization.

For the awesome fee of $1070 - they include the EAD and AP (advance parole which is travel document) as part of AOS - nice deal eh?
