BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The 2-year-old daughter of a Fairfield lawyer charged with stabbing his neighbor to death two weeks ago had told her mother that the man molested her "in the starry nights," according to a police report released Tuesday.

Police said the lawyer, Jonathon Edington, climbed through 58-year-old Barry James' bedroom window and fatally stabbed him on Aug. 28, after his wife told him what his daughter had said.

Edington, 29, appeared Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court facing murder and burglary charges. He is free on $1 million bond but was ordered to have no contact with James' relatives, who live in the house where James was killed.

According to the police report, the girl told her mother about the alleged molestation while the family was visiting relatives in Rhode Island.

The girl "explained that she did not want to go home because of Barry," police said in the report. When her mother asked her to explain, the girl said "that Barry puts it on her belly and her nose," the report said. When her mother asked her when James does this, she replied, "He comes to me in the starry nights."

Police are investigating the molestation claim.

Peter Ambrose, an attorney for James, issued a statement on behalf of James' family disputing the allegations.

"The family of Barry James stand together in defending the unfounded allegations of molestation," the statement said. "They are vicious and hurtful, and the family only wishes that their son and brother had the opportunity to defend himself. When all of the facts are made known, we are confident that Barry will be cleared of these allegations."

James' 87-year-old mother discovered his body. When police officers went to Edington's home a short time later, they found him standing by his kitchen sink with what appeared to be blood on him, authorities said. Officers said a large kitchen knife was next to him on a counter.

Edington, a graduate of Syracuse University and Fordham University Law School, has been practicing patent law, his lawyer, Michael Sherman said. Police said Edington has no criminal record.

I had to read that first sentence twice- I read it as the 2-year being charged with stabbing a man to death!

She seems to talk awfully well for a two year old.

Had I been her parent, I probably would have done the same thing.

I had to re-read it too!

What made this story postable? Just doesn't seem like the usual thing to share at this site?

The initial news report earlier this week was of this lawyer stabbing his neighbor to death without disclosing his motive. Then it was revealed today that the lawyer killed his neighbor because his daughter claimed the neighbor molested her. I'm not sure what you mean about this post being unusual for this site?

Oh, I didn't know about the previous story.. I dunno, it just didn't seem *weird* enough for here!

lol, you'll have to go find the one I posted about the nurse who strangled (to death) an intruder in her home---the follow up is even better--the intruder was a hit man! And here in quiet ole Portland.

Yeah, it's interesting how people might of initially responded to report of the lawyer murdering his neighbor and then how they react now. Emotional outrage aside, what a terrible thing he did to his wife and daughter because now he'll be in prison.

I don't think the child lied...in fact, I don't think the child even said anything. Maybe my knowledge of a two year old is kind of shady but do they really talk like that? Can they even put sentences together in such a way with those words?

There is something weird about this story...I think it's a cover up for cold blooded murder.

It says the little girl was 2 years old but she may have been closer to 3. All 3 of my kids talked that well from the time they were 2 and a half so it's entirely believable.

As Shon said, kids don't usually lie about things like that - especially not a child so young.

And hell yeah, I probably would have reacted the same way as that lawyer did too.

Kids learn a LOT in the two-year-old stage.

I didn't know 2 year olds are so smart to talk like that...changes my thinking now...

All child molestors should be killed...the law these days gives them an easy ride and so sometimes you have to take the law into your own hands...

Anyone remember Jeffrey Dahmer...shudder...I am bringing him up because I remember they just locked him up and the trial was taking too long until his prison mate killed him...I remember reading how the victim's families were sending Dahmer's killler thank you notes and gifts.
