The face to face meeting is important, and required as someone else said within two years. However keep all emails, phone records, receipts for Western Union if you send her money. Remember in some religions, you can't even seeeach other ! And those get approved. My Fiancee and I met in Europe in the winter, it was very cheap for both of us to fly somewhere else, instead of me flying to Brazil, which is expensive during USA winter. You may be able to do something similiar.

Good luck !

Mike

I visted my bf only once for 10days in September 2010 and submitted the I-129 petition in December 2010. However, we know eachother since June 2009. We were friends then started a relationship as bf's thru internet. My fiance had his interviewed and approved in June 30, 2011, but now in ADMISTRATIVE PROCESS and waiting for a call from the consulate to pick up visa. How long this will take who knows :(

it's ok! We met Feb 2009 online, visit me in cebu for 8 days on May 2009, propose on my birthday (sept 2009), file the petition November 2009, got approve april 8th 2010! I remember during my interview and I only have 3 photos to show to the embassy while the other K1 visa applicants have 3 albums. Their documents were as thick as a medical book and mine was just as thick as half of the yellow pad paper. honestly, that made me hopeless that I'd be approved. Not sure if it's luck because 2 of the K1 applicants that was there for their interview got some problems with their documents and they were made to submit more. I don't have that much proof of relationship because he only visited me once and briefly; plus it was our first meeting ever and we never even thought of filing the petition so we didn't save our tickets and receipts from our meeting and just took few pictures. so, i don't think that is a problem in the philippines.

Just once for me, but we're talking and typing for at least an hour almost every day (video chat). I hope once is okay for Philippines.

Five times over 3 years. First in Bulgaria, then Ukraine then her home country Belarus. As someone above said..I wanted to make sure.

I truly question the mindset of those who only visit once and then apply for a K-1 even though you have communicated for some period of skype, phone, etc.. It's simply not enough time to make a decision that will last for your entire life. On other forums I cannot tell you how many of these so called "one week wonders" end up in divorce or something even worse. The cultural differences alone can be very rough. Yes, the USCIS demands at least one face to face visit, but can you truly know someone in just a few weeks? Would you marry the local girl/guy in such a short period of time? Just my two cents.

If we would think how many couples who never were in LDR end up in divorce then probably we would think that it's better never to be married. Even couples who live in one city and lived together for a long time before marriage not such rare end up in divorce in a 3-5-10-15 years. I know enough examples from my acquaintances from my city. Some of them end up in divorce even after getting a child. I sure that if it's True Love, you don't need to delay everything for 10 years and meet each other 10 times to understand that you want to be together no matter what. And if you doubt that you're in True Love, then probably it's better to decide that it doesn't worth to leave your fatherland and go across the ocean to live with somebody about whom you have doubts if it's right person for you. I have no doubts in my fiancee Amy, and these 6 weeks we spent together in Russia was the best time in my entire life. We're communicating few hours every single day (Skype, phone...) for already almost 9 months and we never get tired from each other and we never have enough time to spend together, we're ending our chats just because I need to go to sleep to be ready for work in the morning (we have 7 hours time difference). I believe that we will spend all our life together and we will be happy to be together. If not - I completely will lose any belief in Love and in relationships, because if it's not True Love, then True Love just doesn't exist in the world. [it's Victor (Russian fiance) writing]

Jimbo, I can see from the bios of folks here that I'm an old guy at 48, even though my fiance makes me feel 17. I have a solid career, racked up tons of frequent flyer miles for work, and can budget the money to go visit. When you are young you have plenty of time and not enough money. When you get older you have plenty of money and not enough time!

Do not expect limited visits to count against you. I even had a customs agent ask men on a returning trip me how I could afford to travel so much. Watch Kayak and Priceline for cheap plane flights, plan your visit to coincide with holidays (I stretched two 3-day weekends into 9 days off straight), and cut back on other expenses at home.

I can tell your reply was well intended and i appreciate that, BUT: I can read kayak and priceline until my eyes bleed but I still will not have the means to travel again for at least until maybe after the first of the year or more, and that is a BIG maybe. Just because I'm older doesn't mean I have money falling out of my ears, I'm a hard worker but the job market has sucked, along with the wages. As far as cutting expenses, I drive a '92 beater car, rent a tiny simple house, pull my TV off an antenna so no cable or satellite bill, I don't eat out or have any memberships to anything, I eat and live dirt cheap as my family did as I grew up, I have no expenses to cut as you suggested i do, i have always lived VERY frugally. I am glad that you can afford to travel, but as I said before, it is not a reality for me as I go through the rest of this process. thanks for the reply, bro.

that was way more than just your two cents, who are you to dictate to people how many times they should visit or how long their courtship should last before they get married? You can't just throw all people into one big pot like that, everyone is not the same, everyone does not need the same amount of time in a premarital courtship to be succesful in their relationship. maybe you didn't intend it that way, but i believe you insulted a lot of people with your two cents.
