Medical (weight issues)

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had any issue with getting your medical approved due to weight issues? I am 27 years old and very over weight, however I have no medical issue because of this like High Blood Pressure,Diabetes or any other medical problems related to weight... Is it possible that I could fail my medical just for being very over weight?

No you wont Courtney do not worry!! Weight is not something they can fail the medical for.

No way! The medical is more about having all your shots done, being free of tuberculosis and other diseases like that. They never weighed me at the medical and never inquired about diabetes or anything like that.

I have been freaking out about this!! I just had my yearly physical with my Dr a few months ago (april) and all is well Health wise .. I wanted to get EVERYTHING checked out so he sent me for every test imaginable!! EKG/Chest XRay/Blood work you name it I had it... and I'm as healthy as a horse except for a High BMI.. Darrell is going to be my helper when I get to the US, he is my motivation.. I don't have much support for weightloss in my house hold!

Its ok you will be fine at the medical =)!! just watch out for the food when you get there. I put on quite a bit of extra weight from the HFCS and the food here.. its been a problem for me too and i been working on trying to lose weight.

I had the same worry and other than a small unrelated tetanus shot issue it was all fine. Good luck!!

Thank You... Your interview review made me cry at the part where you said you got approved .. I was balling like a baby!! Very happy for you, can't wait to be in your shoes and have the interview done and approved!! 29days to go for me

Aawh, I did the same thing leading up to the interview, just read every review there was and got way too emotional. Just have your documents in order and you will be fine!

I dont know if the medical for the K1 is the same as the one for the AOS, I assume it must be?

It wasnt bad! Mainly, the doctor asked me a list of questions, and did a really quick physical exam followed by 6 shots (because my mom couldnt find my vaccination records, and even if she did, they'd be in French and I couldnt be bothered with the translation, you probably wont have as many or any, other who did the K1 from Canada can chip in). The only unpleasant thing was the tuberculosis skin test, stung a bit but it was over in seconds.

So all in all, it was fairly easy, so dont worry too much, next thing you know it'll be over

Thank You so much for your reply! I really appreciate everyone's input ... I like to know what I'm getting into hahaha... so they had to give you a few shots? Was it expensive for those shots?

it was $335 for everything (exam and shots) but keep in mind, that's for ALL the shots, which as Canadians, we've mostly received as children...I did get those shots as c hild but I've been living in the US for 3 years already and my mom back in Quebec couldnt find the records, so basically, I had to start over as if I never had the shots. I think from what I've read the medical is around $200 in Canada. But dont quote me on this lol I'm remembering from reading on this board and I might be wrong. Maybe someone else should chip in.

My medical at medisys in Montreal was 215$ i think in 2009 with no shots.
