So back in Early 2004 before I found VJ we hired a lawyer to do our CR-1/K3. $2500(plus filing fees), ouch!! Wife and I were busy so the lawyer was convenient, but sure not $2500 worth!! Really what do they do? She gathered us up the forms, mailed them to us, we filled them out, and she corrected any mistakes. We didn't receive any RFE's but I'm sure if we had done al on our own, all would have been fine. SO its nearly time to file the I-751, I receive an email last week that states For $1000 she will again do the paperwork. I ddon'tthink so!! lol. As wwellshe stated its not extremely hard to fill out the paperwork and many of her past clients have done so with success, BUT she didn't have much confidence in us completing it!! lol Need less to say I politely wrote her back declining her services and had found a wonderful website to assist us with the process!! $1000 to fill lout a form that takes 2 minutes!! Time to switch from Nursing to law!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I really got a kick out her statement " not having confidence in filling out the form ourselves," lol Only wish we had founf VJ earlier in the process when we initially filed!! Prior to us initially forming, my wife waited inline ALL DAY at the immigration office and the officer told her it was a very complicated process to go through and best to use a lawyer!! He actually told her it takes years and years to bring over a spouse!! Oh well, thats all in the past. Cheerio

yeah, in the past it did take years and years to bring a spouse over, and it was a major pain in the #######. Lawyers used to say "hey, we'll do the paperwork for ya, and we'll speed up the process for ya!" And when it took the lawyer 3 years to have it approved and completed, they'd tell the client, "well if you'd done it yourself it would have taken twice as long" which we all know is bullshit, but that's how they make their money :P

A lawyer told us that they have pro responsability in case something happens, because the gvt can also check on them; i might think that the huge amuont of money it takes some of it goes in this pro responsabiity. I believe a good lawyer or any kind of professional, a good one, evaluates first the work it has to be done in each case and makes an offer; when the case is not complicated it's not fair to ask the same amount as for somebody who's case needs more time and energy to put into.hm!...i believe those professionals are rare to find nowdays!

Hmm. There's also the malpractice insurance to consider, which I'm sure is part of the fee that is requested. An attorney, when representing a client, is exposed to the repercussions, if a mistake is made. :)

I'm not compalining about her service, for the most part she was very good. I didnt join VJ until Nov 2004 and I had the interview Dec 2004. She was pretty knowledgable, but her fees were a bit high. Oh well all is in the past

I'm sure she really meant no harm, but was a weird way of stating her opinion, lol Liek I said for the most part she did a good job, and like others pointed was nice that she followed up. But in reality a $1000 is a lot of $$ for what she is going to provide. We would stil have to gather up all the docs and the form takes 2 min to fill out!! Guess It was the case for the initial filing 2 yrs back, but after my wife came back from that appt, it sounded a lot harder (almost impossible) then it actually was. Spend that $1000 on plane tickets back to S'toon!!

Lawyers are crazy. We spent $1000.00 for ours. I'm the one that did the paperwork, he sent it in. I'm the one that checked the case online, he's the one that sit back and chomped on bon-bons. He ever called ME and asked me when Wael would have his interview. Then I would e-mail him and his response would always be "be patient!" Funny thing is Wael has been here for a month. I have not told the lawyer he is hear. I want him to look like an ###. Funny thing is he really expects us to do the AOS with him. NOT!

8-7-06 Visa received after 6 months of AR

9-1-06 AOS sent

9-20-06 Biometrics

3-5-07 AOS Approved
