You have to go pay for a marriage license then you get a list of people who can do the service and the dates they can do it on. Then you pick one. Then you call and book the date for the marriage. Then you show up on that date and get married. You walk your license down to the marriage license office in the court house then you pick up your marriage certificate.

Its very likely you wont get " the next day " because they may not have someone available. They may also have a waiting period to get married. The wait period for our state was 24 hrs after we got the marriage certificate.

I agree with the above post, you need to research the state you will be getting married. We have a 5 day processing period to get our marriage license. All the info was on the State website. Good Luck!

Quick question regarding the marriage license...I believe it must be obtained from the county in which you will be married, NOT the county in which you live, is that correct? For example, I live in Colorado but will be getting married in Indiana. So, that means I need to obtain the marriage license from the county in Indiana in which I will be married, correct?

In Colorado you can solemnize your own marriage PLUS you need no social security number. Consider Colorado if they will allow you to solemnize out of the state or solemnize it in Colorado before you go to Indiana.

Have ID, get a marriage license, get married, get certified copies, pay money and file documents I485 with USCIS, wait for AOS.

Thought most States also require a blood test first. Many States require the immigrant to have a ss number before marriage. Best thing is to check your State website. Jim.

Define "U.S. influence"? The only way this is possible is if the island is considered an American territory. One of the main requirements of the K1 visa is you have to get married in the USA. And your fiancee cannot leave the U.S. on the K1 visa, or even after you get married if she hasn't got her status adjusted or an Advance Parole (a document allowing her to travel while her Adjustment of Status is pending). Don't leave the U.S. to go get married cause you will then need another visa!!

On your other question - you can get married in any American state you'd like.

You can get married in any state you want. Some people like to do Las Vegas. You just need to meet the requirements for that state and/or county.( In New York it is the state).

Check with your local government, usually town clerk or county clerk. Details differ from place to place.

It is quite possible that you could show up to the courthouse and get married. Many states allow this. In Vermont you could just go to the town office and the town clerk can do it (if they are a JP, usually they are) or just call in one of the local JPs to do it.

In California you can usually get married at the county clerk's office. In most cases, no appointment is needed. California doesn't require blood tests anymore, and there's no waiting period. You can literally walk into the county clerk's office, and walk out 1/2 an hour later married and with a certified copy of the marriage certificate in your hands. This is what we did, and our county clerk's office even had a JP who spoke Vietnamese so we had a bilingual marriage ceremony.

Yep, California is super easy. How 'bout San Francisco? I proposed in San Francisco but got married in Santa Barbara. Also very cool is Hawaii. My daughter and her husband got married in Maui, Hawaii, both being tourists on vacation. No SSN or anything like this needed. Hawaii is also one of the best locations for a honeymoon.
