Hi, it's my first time posting, i sent in my last packet ds-230 on July 13th, and called NVC on Aug 4, spoke to an operator. she said that my case was completed on July 25th. NVC still haven't forwarded my case to GZ.

i am wondering about how long does it take to get the interview email.

thank you for all comments in advance.

First of all, it'll take about a weekish for NVC to send stuff to GZ, usually they send them in batches. Call NVC to check if they send it or not. The hard part is for GZ to receive the physical package. Due to Chinese customs, it can take anywhere from 2-4 months, hopefully less. Once GZ receives the package maybe a week or 2.

Based on your post, I assume you have filed for a CR-1 visa. If that is correct, did you opt for electronic processing?

:time:

yup, i didn't opt for electronic process. and i just received email from NVC today: "The National Visa Center has completed its processing of your case and forwarded your file to the designated American Embassy/Consulate. The American Embassy/Consulate listed below will contact

you with further information in regards to your visa interview. Note that certain visa categories will not be scheduled for an interview until the case's priority date is eligible."

i thought it will include the interview date, unfortunately not.

Only in Guangzhou, non-EP CR-1 interviews are scheduled by the Consulate.

postal? ouch.

Prepare for a 3 to 5 month wait on GUZ IV 'open the casefile' timetick, as the casefile will sit in a China Bonded Warehouse.

Then after GUZ IV opens the casefile, yer lass still needs to be scheduled, a P4 set sent out to her.

On NON-EP, GUZ IV schedules the interview, sends out a postal letter to HER - NVC is done, really, after it ships the casefile to GUZ IV.

It's always a personal choice to NOT USE EP at NVC - the outcome for NOT, is always a longish wait.

Good Luck !

Big PS - http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/iv_faqs.html#B1

IMO, is #1 reason for using EP at NVC.

I looked up the tracking number from all NVC shipments to Guangzhou from May 1st to July 25, and found the following information:

of about 20 total shipments, using the reverse reference number lookup on DHL,

- If package is under 4 lbs, it will clear customs in under 5 days.

- 3 packages are still in customs, of weights 5, 23, and 8. (one of which is relevant to my petition)

- the longest has been in customs since the first of May, only 5 lbs (I thought there may be some relationship between weight and time in customs, but the 5 lb one blows this out of the water)

- Shipments of 17 and 19 lbs cleared in about 1 month

As Darnell said, you are now looking at at least a few more months before getting the notice for the interview date which will be several weeks to a month further out.

Just out of curioustiy, why did you opt for the paper process and not EP?

that's OUCH!! i thought it will be a few weeks behind or even more a month by sending from NVC to GZ embassy. i didn't expecting that they will let the file sit the for months before opening the case. that is a huge different of timing. after the long wait for NOA2. another waiting period starts. >.<

thanks for the information guys, and i hope other people will read it and choose the right OPT. in the beginning. not being stupid as me.

Sure, not a problem.

to http://track.dhl-usa.com/TrackByRef.asp?nav=TrackByRef and enter EXP 04 AUG 2011A as the reference number.

But tracking on the 4th isn't showing a shipment to Guangzhou, but I did find tracking 8788095282, which is a 2 piece shipment, 3 lbs. If its that small, expect it to clear quickly.

I know everyone here is saying 3 months or whatever, but if its in a small shipment, it should clear customs in a matter of days. I've tracked everything in the DHL system back to the first of May, and only one shipment has needed 3 months.

it's not the 'clearing time', per se. clearing, itself, usually takes 3 days or less.

once cleared, the casefile sits in a bonded china gov warehouse, per treaty.
