Sharia in the UK is basically just arbitration correct. IE both parties must agree with entering into the agreement before going before a "judge" (I'd rather call them an arbitrator).

The only negative I see is if a person is pressured into this by the community by way of threats.

But for say one of us it won't apply unless for some silly reason we want it to. I saw comments like - they don't want alcohol near a mosque....well if the business is selling it near one...they likely don't believe in Sharia and therefore the community's mandate won't apply to them.

Yup, as long as the British law isn't broken, then it CAN be applied if both parties agree to it. It is a form of alternate dispute resolution, that's all. Selling alcohol near a mosque is acceptable, if you don't drink then who cares. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just an ignorant buffoon.

Hands are cut off only under strict conditions: 1. The person stole for greed or self gain, not mental illness or need such as food. 2. The accused was not a minor, 3. Cutting off hands, stoning, all the punishments bandied about to scare radical Christianists are part of the Hudud laws, rarely even incorporated into the Sharia law recognized by the vast majority of majority Muslim countries. Mercy and justice are greater and more prominent requirements under Sharia law, as is the is the law of minorities directing Muslims to obey the law of the land where we live.
