Hi all,

My wife and I safely entered the United States on the 20th of July. We just recently moved from the address that was written on her I-130 form to another one. It wasn't till yesterday that we read that by law she needs to update her address with INS within 10 days of arriving at a new location.

I've spoken with 3 people on this subject, one of which is an attorney (and my brother), and all have unanimously said that we ought to wait for her SSN card and her green card to come in the mail (at our old address, which is also my parents address) before we update her new address with INS. My parents house is still my permanent residence, and therefore, my wife's as well. I'm just curious to know what the visajourney community thinks about this? Should we update her address with INS (it's only a local address while we're attending University) or keep our permanent residence address in the INS system.

Here's what I'm referring to:

Regardless of your U.S. Immigration status, if you are not a U.S. citizen, you must report a change of address to the U.S. Immigration Service within 10 days of moving to a new location. This applies to U.S. Permanent Resident Aliens and to all individuals in a non-immigrant status such as students, scholars and dependents in B, F, H, J, M, TN, O, W/B and other Visa Classifications.

Under the current Department of Homeland Security policy, failure to report your residence address or any change of address to the U.S. Immigration Service within 10 days of moving to a new location is punishable by fines or imprisonment and/or deportation.

Thanks.

In change of address you can give your current address as address of residence and your old address (parents address) as the Mailing address, so you are legally right and your mail will go to the old address with SSN and Green card. Of course I gave those already in my I-864.
