I actually do think Why_Me has a point on this. Why can't smokers have places they can chill and smoke with each other? As long as it's well advertised that it's a smoking zone I don't see the problem.

If someone fires "straight up" then the bullet will go up, turn around, and "fall" back down. In most cases, that's not going to be fatal. What is (possibly) going to be fatal for that person is the mob that can now attack them with more extreme prejudice because they're a more dangerous victim and need to be overcome more quickly.

If you pull a weapon and/or fire a round into the air with a group of violent people around you and they run away, you're very lucky. If they stand there and make you shoot someone, chances are you're going to be overcome since they've already decided you can be overcome by the mob.

Think about human anatomy for a moment. In order for the trajectory to go 100% perpendicular to the force of gravity (literally, 'straight up'), your arm would have to be pointed in this direction. In reality, human anatomy almost guarantees the gun will not be pointed directly straight up. Hence, it fires not in this direction.

Go back and check your physics books. The flight path is not parabolic.

That's the biggest load of ####### I've read today. They aren't banning McDonalds, they are simply not allowing mcdonalds to advertise their food as "healthier", because it's not. French fries weren't banned and replaced with apples, they were added to the menu as a CHOICE. Your histrionics aside, you should learn the difference between given a choice, and a ban. You seem to be taking the position against choices for the consumer, simply because you think that trying to eat healthier is some liberal conspiracy.

This type of mob mentality is pretty common here in Houston. Young black kids mobbing a convenience store en mass and ripping the place off while the poor Indian or Pakistani clerk stands by helplessly intimidated. I've actually seen it personally. Black kids walked into a convenience store, grabbed several cases of beer, and walked out without paying or saying a word. The clerk asked me to go after them because he couldn't leave the store unattended. I told him, sorry, ain't my beer, ain't my store, ain't none of my business. Why get killed or maimed when you don't have a horse in the race.

I used to go to the gym where I met an HPD cop. The guy had lots of stories. He'd catch black kids stealing and when the kid's parent came down to the jail to get the kid, the parent would curse the cops out for arresting the kid. No wonder these kids are what they are. No cure for that mentality but a bullet.

Just a few more mention of black kids in there. I am sure by your reckoning no other races are ripping anyone else off. Would those cases also merit murdering the criminal punks?

Hmmm...interesting. The majority of people I know in the Seattle area who would be called "liberal" or "Commie" according to the definitions here on VJ are definitely NOT yuppies. And they are incredibly generous with their time, talents, and money when it comes to charity.

But I suppose it's better to have a narrowly painted POV to fit the stereotype. God forbid there are people who are a mix of conservative and liberal values. And btw, I've never heard of a "garden party in the woods."

There is a reason I don't post on VJ most weekends. It has to do with volunteering my time and energy. Something I doubt many of these 'volunteer story conservatives' rarely do in real life.

Call the cops? Ha! The bloods are already safe drinking beer in the crib by the time the cops arrive to fill out the report. Shows how much you know about how the real world operates.

Plenty of times this liberal has called, flagged down, and pointed the police to a crime in progress. Never had to testify about these cases either. Doing things intelligently might have something to do with it... although nobody is demanding you actually take a role in making your community a better/safer place.
