But, since you posted it, I'll reiterate, being in the middle of a mob is a horrible position to be in and the choice you'd have to make would be easier if you had a sidearm.

Wisconsin is the other state that does not allow anyone to carry a gun for self defense. That will hopefully change this year

They only recently started with concealed carry. Even still, it's doubtful they're allowed to carry at the fair.

This type of mob mentality is pretty common here in Houston. Young black kids mobbing a convenience store en mass and ripping the place off while the poor Indian or Pakistani clerk stands by helplessly intimidated. I've actually seen it personally. Black kids walked into a convenience store, grabbed several cases of beer, and walked out without paying or saying a word. The clerk asked me to go after them because he couldn't leave the store unattended. I told him, sorry, ain't my beer, ain't my store, ain't none of my business. Why get killed or maimed when you don't have a horse in the race.

I used to go to the gym where I met an HPD cop. The guy had lots of stories. He'd catch black kids stealing and when the kid's parent came down to the jail to get the kid, the parent would curse the cops out for arresting the kid. No wonder these kids are what they are. No cure for that mentality but a bullet.

Every bar here used to be smoking, you had no choice but to put up with second hand smoke. Now you don't. Smoking has not been banned, but the emphasis is rightly on those whose behaviour is inconveniencing others. Smokers just have to smoke in the agreed area. There's no major public opposition to it.

I actually do think Why_Me has a point on this. Why can't smokers have places they can chill and smoke with each other? As long as it's well advertised that it's a smoking zone I don't see the problem.
