Hello everyone! This is my first post. Last year my fiance was denied his visa and told they needed more evidence of our relationship. We sent them everything they asked for but they denied him after 10 minutes because they didn't like that we met through a mutual friend. Isn't that how most people meet each other? Anyway, I was told I should attend the next interview with him and things will go better. So no I'm in the process of re-filing since our first petition expired. I read here under Ghana Consulate Information that petitioner is NOT allowed in the interview, but several posts said they did attend.

Can anyone tell me which is true? I do plan on flying over and really want to attend to know that we did all we could possibly do.

Thanks in advance!

The possibility for you to be in attendance at the interview in Ghana is as unclear as the real benefits in your being there - some have been able to while others have not - go figure. From what I understand, even if they allow you to come to the interview you will be interviewed separately which could be a good or bad thing depending on how prepared both of you are for the interview. I have not seen any concrete evidence that being there improves the chances of a visa. I am aware of at least one person who recently was there for a K1 interview and the SO still did not receive the visa - also aware of another k1 where things worked out well.

Emotional support seems to be the best benefit in being in the country when the interview takes place plus it may help to further provide evidence of your continued relationship. Considering the focus of your first denial, it seems that you need to do all that you can to convince them that your relationship is real - especially clarifying your connection to the person who introduced you. Remember that Ghana is viewed as one of the high fraud countries where people enter a "relationship" for the purpose of coming to the US only - it your fiance's responsibility to convince them otherwise.

Welcome to VJ and good luck!

Both might be true. Ususally, most embassies say that the petitioner is not allowed! I was also told this at the Nairobi embassy. However, you should take into account the money, distance and time wasted during this process and always be there, even if you have to sit outside during this time. At any point in which a problem occurs, the beneficiary can be asked to return with the petitioner and if the petitoner is outside it makes everything much easier.

I was allowed in the US Embassy Nairobi with a brief discussion with the embassy security and they let em inside without a problem. When my wife was interviewed, the CO said she didn't need me and to take a seat. However, less than 5 mins later she sent my wife to get me and bring me to the window. The final (stokes interivew) was late in the evening but provided and opportunity to further discuss things in detail and once finshed, visa was issued on the spot to us.

Good luck!!!!

One more thing - interviews at the embassy in Ghana often required the interviewee to come back for a second or third interview to provide more evidence or something. There are those who have made it through the first time, but, there seems to be more who are called back. So if your hope is to be there on the day of the interview and bring your fiancee back to the US with you, the odds may work against you in Ghana. Love you Ghana! :innocent:
