Great news indeed. And to think CAT now has thousands of acres to use as testing grounds. They can start two blocks south of Cominsky Park and keep on going until they get 20 miles inside the Indiana border.

Brown's... what a tragedy that was! Palatine, I think it was. Last I drove up there, quite a lot of McMansions.

Evanston is on the lake, but as far as I remember (save for the parts south of Dempster towards Chicago city limits) had a bit of a reputation that are mostly gone due to new construction and better public services that have offered better housing options all-around. Now what were once seedy drug houses are Northwestern student coops.

Gary does have its cute parts, ironically. Northwest Indiana is odd like that. Steel mill, old prohibition safehouses, and beautiful lakefront and inland parks that don't have dead bodies or car parts waiting to be discovered.

Totally agree. The don't need to be banned. We need to mature up and target the criminals and people most apt to use them in a way contrary to public safety.

Palatine was nice, reminded me of Skokie. Evanston used to be very collegial, then went a bit crazy and now it's getting better...I hope.

Evanston still is... just looks a lot more like Oak Park, with even more mansions on one side, and nice public housing options close to downtown. In the South side I hear there was a real estate revival happening in South Shore since last I lived there. And Chatham, Woodlawn, Brownsville, the not so good part of Bridgeport, Pilsen... are all making a nice comeback. Even McKinley Park.

There is also a Chicago Police firing range being discussed for South Chicago in one of the abandoned lots. Word is lots of cops live in the area, and I just looked at CLEARMAP crime for the area and it actually reports much less incidents that the areas where the suburbanite transplant neighborhoods (Lakeview, Wrigelyville, Lincoln Park, etc) do.

The roads did take a toll on me but not as much as the tolls. Looked out at block after block of what was, and thought about it. I saw decrepit buildings and thought how many stories the walls could tell us, how much they formed part of the fabric of Americana. I just thought about how many more stories there are to tell if only everyone would get on board. Chicago is far from finished.

I drive through and have never had any problems. Maybe part of it has to do with the attitude and outlook we import into those areas as visitors (and sometimes residents).

Or the fact that you stick to the tollway and keep your windows up and doors locked while avoiding direct eye contact.

The purpose of a gun is to fire a projectile. (And yes, I can hammer nails with my guns.)

If you want to get a little deeper as to why we have guns our right to own them is protected for the purpose of a deterrent against tyrannical government. It's not just about duck hunting. Although, our founders were "sportsmen" with their shooting irons perhaps more than any other sporting items.
