We finally received our NOA1 after almost 3 weeks...disapointed it took so long.

What can we do next to help speed the process along and be prepared for the next stage?

3 weeks that's not long at all at least you got is some have not even received their NOA1. You can't speed it up you now sit and wait like the rest of us had to and are doing. Take up a hobby. read a book, keep yourself busy and read up on the whole process so you are familiar with what to do when you get approved in 4-5 months.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

You are lucky to have the NOA 1 in such a short time. Now prepare to sit back & wait for 5 to 6 months. During that time there isnt anything you can do to affect what happens. This isnt good enough for many people so they fill their time with calls to USCIS & then turn to politicians hoping they can do something they cant. Try and no do that to yourselves. The system works but takes its own time which is difficult to endure. Best to educate yourselves about the coming process to help you understand why it takes longer than you hoped.

I dont see how this is in short time... I have seen alot of peoples timelines and they received their NOA1 whithin a few days.

I understand i cant speed them up but I ean anything we can do to be ready for the next stage... for example having forms etc prepared so there not much extra wait time..

Not really.

Get the birth certificate ready maybe.

All the other records that need to be collected should have a matching date with the packet they'll send you. So what good is getting an immunization record right now? Or the police records?

Other than that, keep records of emails/letters/phone bills/etc to show an ongoing relationship.

You're right, you can't really speed anything up. Just make skype your friend and good luck with the wait.

What I would suggest is check out the UK section in the Regional Discussions. You'll probably find people there who can let you know what the interview process is like and let you know what the embassy there expects.

There are people here on V J that have waited much longer & a few that, like you were lucky. In the end these cases are all unique in many ways. You may find that having a simple reciept doesnt mean much in that the NOA 2 could come at a later date than others who got the NOA 1 long after you did.

What really matters to the USCIS portion of your case is the NOA 2 date. Even that doesnt mean your case will pass others because they all go to NVC. You will see some even today that can not understand why their case seems lost between USCIS & NVC for example. The case isnt lost but it is in a sort of limbo. The cases approved by USCIS become part of the millions passing thru NVC.

Your actual question seems to be what you can do to prepare the docs required in order to have them ready to submit. While you have months to do just that you could begin today on those forms. See the guides to find the forms for your type of case.

As I've mentioned in several other posts...the best way to pass the next 5 or 6 months is start planning your wedding. Even if you don't plan on having a big wedding, there are still plans to be made and little details that can be mulled over. I have found that this has helped me a lot over the months I waited. Now...my wedding is all planned, just making a few purchases here and there. I even have my wedding gown and it is already being altered. If you think about it, 5 or 6 months isn't a long time to plan a wedding...a lot of people (who don't go through this process) often take about a year to plan. So...sit back and dream of how you're going to make your "big day" special. :)

And, yes, the truth is there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. For now...all you can do is wait.

Best wishes to you!

Do you know what your Receipt notice or Visa Journey term (NOA1) does for you? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Your receipt number is the only thing that matters for your case. When you have waited until you can't stand it, guess what? Your going to have to wait some more. You will be told nothing about your case from USCIS until you receive the email saying you are approved. Many people obsess about this, but this is one situation you have no control over. This is the longest turtle race you will ever have to deal with. Good luck

Yes this part in your journey is the waiting stage unfortunately. Keeping the relationship strong and both of you happy is the focus.

Over the next 5-6 months you could get your fiance's birth certificate, police certificate (I'd wait a little closer to the NOA2), make sure they all their required vaccinations...and save money.

The wait is well worth it in the end.

You can check to see if your immunzations are up to date. John needed some and has to go back in 3 months. Much cheaper to deal with it here and now vs. at med exam or over here. The police record takes about 3 weeks to get and is good for 12 months. There is other documentation needed for the next stage but yes, you will have about 5 months to do it in. I just like to research and work on it to keep from driving everyone nuts with my obsessing about it. :)

7/15/11 Sent K1 Petition to Lockbox

8/10/11 STILL NO NOA1!

8/12/11 Called USCIS to get receipt number-NOA1 will be resent

8/16/11 Received NOA1 with date of 7/20/11

1/3/12 NOA2!!!

1/12/12 Got email notice we are through the NVC.

I would suggest you start working on the documents need for your fiance to have his/her interview at the emabasy. Believe we hit a road block when I had to get a police record from Russia where my wife was born, it took us a month 1/2 and 500$. If I started earlier it would have been cheaper (but not faster).

You can start filling out all of the forms, find where he/she will go and get the medical exam, what emabsy to go to, after the visa is approved what to do next, AOS and so fort.

Good luck, K1 visa took 8 months to get.

In the mean time have your fiance fly to vist you for a couple of months and then fly back once its approved.

There is always so much to do
