Forgive me if someone else posted this...

Orfi marriages are quite common in Egypt but are usually used out of convience. They're are often referred to as "###### papers". Some men will have several orfi wives who come and go. Orfi marriages are not recognized outside of Egypt. The woman has no rights under this marriage. Most ppl use them so that they can stay together in hotels or flats..hence the term "###### paper".

For a foreigner to marry in Egypt and have that marriage recognized outside of Egypt it must be done at the Ministry of Justice. For an American specifically you must have a no objection statement from the embassy then you'll basically run around all day getting stamps, certificates, etc. I believe that is why so many just go for the k-1 if they're marrying an Egyptian. If you marry at the Ministry it is both a civil and religious ceremony. That is what my husband and I did.

After reading much of this thread I'm wondering...why do ppl make such explosive type threads? Everyone is complaining about the animosity that goes on on this particular part of the site (MENA). I'm Muslim maybe not the best Muslim in the world but I'm Muslim nonetheless and only Allah knows what's in my heart and mind. I don't need others to judge me. If I make a mistake, it's mine and mine alone. No one will answer for me on el yawn ideen. If I want to learn more about my religion I know where to find the information. We are all humans, none of us here are saints or angels. Let's leave the judgements to Allah.

I vote for no more religious threads...this is an immigration site not a religious one.

And after reading posts asking why certain threads exist, I started a thread asking people to stop trying to stop others from posting on threads just because they don't like them. If others want to, and you don't, then don't read them, don't comment on them, stay away from them.

As I said before, this "what's in your heart" stuff is often used as an excuse to publicize your faults, then say don't judge me because God will. We are not isolated individuals, we are part of a whole, that whole is not healthy because few of us choose to speak out forfear of being not liked or for shamed as "arrogant", "superior", "judgmental", and "airing dirty laundry". If you do understand Islam, then you know that it does allow others to judge, not condemn, but judge, whether you like it or not. That is why I began this thread, because there are those who publicize their sins as tho they are ok, then state that no one should correct them because that's judging.

O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for God can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily God is well- acquainted with all that ye do. [4:135]

Some of you prefer only the sweetness and light of Islam, and I do too. But it would not be correct practice for others to say nothing when incorrect practice is being passed off as correct because some of you cannot bring yourself to enjoin the good and reject the evil (Q 3:114).

If you have a better place to get your information, then please go there to do so, and allow others to do as they see fit. The main reason why there is animosity here is because Muslims who say nothing against the wrong believe themselves to be heroes when they are not. Since that has become the norm, to let things slide, those who do not know better are mislead to repeat the same bad acts in the future, and it is the MUSLIMS here who gave them the idea that it was ok of good for them! Not a good example if you want your heart to be in good shape for God to judge. We owe them more than that.

I vote for no more religious threads...this is an immigration site not a religious one.

It's not a democracy either. This forum often discusses marriage as a part of immigration. This thread is about how to do it, so it's not out of context.

More to come

I started this thread because I saw bad information being passed off as good, and when someone tried to correct it, other Muslims, out of ignorance, spoke out against the correction. Those who were willing to speak up didn't start the problem, we were trying to FIX the problem.

Why not try to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem? Maybe then, we could have some peace.

No matter what your faith, judging others is looked upon as a something that is best left to someone besides yourself.

A man holding a basket of eggs does not dance on stones.

African

Buji Proverb (Nigeria)

"... Each of us is responsible for one life only, and that is our own. Each of us is immeasurably far from being 'perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect' and the task of perfecting our own life and

character is one that requires all our attention, our will-power and energy. If we allow our attention and energy to be taken up in efforts to keep others right and remedy their faults,we are wasting precious time. We are like ploughmen each of whom has his team to manage and his plough to direct, and in order to keep his furrow straight he must keep his eye on his goal and concentrate on his own task. If he looks to the side and that to see how Tom and Harry are getting on and to criticize their ploughing, then his own furrow will assuredly become crooked."

Baha'i

Shoghi Effendi

Living the Life, pp. 2-3

He who treads the Path in earnest

Sees not the mistakes of the world;

If we find fault with others

We ourselves are also in the wrong.

When other people are in the wrong, we should ignore it,

For it is wrong for us to find fault.

By getting rid of this habit of fault-finding

We cut off a source of defilement.

When neither hatred nor love disturb our mind

Serenely we sleep.

Sutra of Hui Neng 2

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

tnh9479, apparently you don't realize that you are doing what you are saying others should not do - judging. That certainly wasn't lost on me. Please follow your own advice and I'll do as I see fit. One thing that I won't do is tell others not to judge others while judging them.

I am not PC, I don't do PC, I do believe in free speech. I do make judgements when I believe it to be correct to do so, evem on myself, and I don't apologize for them. Anyone who doesn't like my posts is free to ignore them.
