Can a US born British Citizen attend Uni in UK as a Brit?

Just curious to know if my wife and I have kids here in the US would they be allowed to go to University in England as a brit or would they be considered an international student? (assumeing they are raised in the US and just go to UK for University)

I think the rules now are that you need to live in the UK as a nonstudent for three years preceding the start of the term.

Thanks. Is that the three years immediately preceding or any three year period before starting classes?

This is all a long, long way off right now but I read today that college tuition here in the US will continue to increase at a ridiculous rate making college practically unaffordable in the future.

At this rate, in-state tuition in the U.S. (depending on the state, of course) might be better value!

I doubt it will make that much of a difference once they hike tuition fees in the US - though I would assume that even when they do that they will still be higher for international students

I knew it was going up but I hadnt really done the math(s). Screw it! They just won't go to college at all. In which case any education will be pointless, I'll just have them work in the fields from the age of 7.

Edit: Although they will probably need a degree to work in the fields by then.

Your children would have to be resident in the part of the UK they want to go to uni (England, Wales, Scotland etc) for the 3 years prior to the course starting.

I finished my degree last year in England my fees for the last year were £3400 odd courses that start this September are paying over £9000 for the first year for international students you can more than double that fee, and they have the cheek to increase the fees for each year. Convert that to dollars that one hell of an education

Like others have said, 3 years resident immediately prior to study. This is why there are lots of international students doing A-Levels in the UK :-) But that option is more for the not-so-poor. 3 years residence between high school and university may well be a good choice for at least one of your children. I had a coursemate who did this. She lived and worked in the UK, earning money and also developing a lot of life skills, before going to university.
