Hi!

I want to bring my Mother in law to USA for 6 months or so.

What is the procedure and how much will it cost?

I am a citizen but my wife is on a conditional green card status.

Please inform...

Thanks,

Health Insurance will be the biggie and that depends on her age and any pre existing conditions.

You cannot petition to bring your MIL to the US as a tourist. She needs to go the to the US Embassy/Consulate in her country to apply for a visa. She will need to qualify on her own based on strong ties to her home to overcome the presumption that all foreign nationals entering the US wants to immigrate.

The best place for information will be on the US Embassy/Consulate website in her country.

She will have fill out DS-160 and then submit the fees - which she will have to pay in home country, then submit all the documents to VFS based on the date she gets for interview.

She will have to show all the ties to home country and then either you or her can buy the flight ticket and health insurance.

I would also reduce the duration of her stay from 6 months to 2 weeks. They consider 6 months as pretty suspicious, like you might be trying to get free daycare for a child. I know it's ridiculous, but we fought with embassy 3 times before they let my mil come visit. Once she's granted the visa it'll most likely be a 5 yr multi entry visa. Customs in the US should let her stay 6 months at most before making her go back. You just need to convince the embassy that she's only coming over for a short visit.
