oh alabama, guys what do you really expect from a state that allows cousins to get married....

Before you go smarting off you should check your local laws as New York is one of the 20 states that allow first cousins to marry.

Most of the southern and border states are getting more strict regarding DL's for non citizens. Just as the immigration rules change constantly, we will be chasing a moving target with DL requirements now it seems.

When i first went to the DMV here in VA to get my learners permit they asked proof of residency,i only showed my passport with the attachment of I-94 {1 week expired }SSN, and marriage certificate and they did not letting me to take the learner's permit cuz they want a valid proof of residency. When i got my EAD,i went back and took the learner's permit test.

weird as an F1 Student my driver's license had 8 years on it. lol

I live in NYC

this whole thing is bull really, `when you're gc expires your dl expires` i mean c'mon you have a gc.

Yes they used to do that 8 yr or 5 yrs DL at every renewal.

Now most states would onlu issue you a DL for time your visa is valid and yes until the GCs validity date.

This is to cut the illegals immigrants from the system, so it works and is not a bull.

did you or anyone read my post carefully? i think not

"`when you're gc expires your dl expires` i mean c'mon you have a gc." which implies that you have a gc, which further implies that you will most likely to get a 10 year permanent one in few years time, then in a few years time you are most likely to become citizen, so i think they just should hand the dl for a normal duration(5-8 years whatever...)

Hi fellow VJ's,

for the 3rd time, DMV refused me to take the learners permit for DL even i showed the I-130 approval notice and the I-485 welcome to the USA letter. she told us to just wait until the greencard arrived since they are going to based that for the expiration of my DL. ( what???)

1st time refusal: we went there and showed the EAD and SSN. she was looking for aprroval notice.we didn't have yet at that time. i even brought all the documents received from USCIS and even the interview letter.still didn't work.

2nd time: talked already to the Corporal. he refused us.he said i was already out of status. he based it through my I-94 and when the USCIS received it. it has been 6 days that i was out of status when the USCIS received our AOS packet.

During our interview on July 27, Atlanta, Georgia, even the IO was surprised that they didn't let me take the drivers license test compared to other state that as long as u showed your EAD and SSN, would be fine and they will let you.our lawyer even said, DMV people here are idiot. they were not fully aware of the immigration thing.

I'm getting irritated with them already. what else they would like me to show. well, when the time comes and received the GC, i hope they won't make ANY EXCUSES anymore to deny or refused me!

Hi, I am from Huntsville, Alabama and my good friend lives there with her Moroccan husband. He had to show his green card as well before he got to do anything as well.

That's pretty disrespectful, you know.

I know some pretty nice and upstanding people from local KKK chapters in Alabama and many Governors have been respected members of those traditional clubs in the Deep South. Nothing wrong with marrying a close family member, me thinks. After all, whom could one love more than oneself? Exactly, so unless you would want to outlaw masturbation it's just silly to outlaw marriage between close relatives. That's like saying to the U.S. Government: keep your hands of my Medicare!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

not to get off topic but you can't really argue that it's a normal thing. Because if it was then it wouldn't be banned in so many places. i dont really care i was just joking..

but we all know what's happening in UK, royals marrying with the same blood line then IQ goes down to toilet :-)

I am offended by that comment since I am a native from Alabama. This is not what VJ is about and you should not be so disrespectful to the OP. If I was a moderator you would be banned for such a COMMENT not pertaining to this topic.

GC DL will expire on same date, AZ no different but they understand documents and let my wife have license for 1 year pending GC completion. it is always a challenge.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
