You bet the almighty dollar wins again

I have a feeling it's not going to be good for those Mexican trucks when they pit at a truck stop.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Companies have bought Mexican trucking companies as they have bought Canadian trucking outfits already. Celadon is big in this. It is also why the Trucking company associations have pushed this. It could also bode well for all of us if instead of our manufacturing going to China they went to Mexico. The trade could be huge. Now they did start zones years ago to build manufacturing plants there but it has stalled in recent years. The one thing that is wrong about this is that we do not have a level playing field. They get to come and go but we can't do the same. The trade between Canada and the U.S. is huge and very beneficial because we have a level playing field.

I also used to drive for the Walgreens for awhile and they were Teamsters. The pay was good but I was making the same when I was over the road. They were about to bring me on full but I decided I wanted to go back to over the road driving so I left them. Over the road can't be Teamsters oriented or union. I think they could be now or soon in the future since over the road is now heavily restricted and with boxes in our trucks to watch us that a change could happen.

It isn't Mexican trucks that is going to doom the industry. Right now many truck drivers are hanging it up or plan on doing so with CVSA new rules. Also we are waiting again to see what they are going to do about hours of service. There are a lot of other issues also.

For the truck owners, they get a little PO'd about E.P.A. clean fuel and emission requirements. Who can afford to replace an engine every four years or so?

Well the older engines are Grandfathered in some but it is hard to have to buy a new truck or engine when they are still having problems with them. No one wants to work the kinks out. They just want to go make money. I had a new truck last year from Volvo and every new truck has to be able to use Diesel Exhaust Fluid. It was a pain in the #### and problems with them still but the Feds have mandated that any diesel engine regardless has to use the Fluid from now on starting this year. Most of us out here just want to know what the Feds want and leave us alone afterwards. They are still arguing about the new hour of service rules and the new point system (CVSA) that targets all drivers and places points on us for any violations. Too many and you use the ability to drive a big truck. There is other stuff coming out but we just want them to finish and tell us what they want us to do and be done with it already.

That's pretty much the only consideration for many. To hell with the environment, sadly.

That is your opinion but I guess it was best to force a technology onto the country that was not ready yet and needed time. The manufacturers even said it was not ready yet and asked for more time. Of course they were refused and now we are having problems that costs time and money to not just companies that have to buy these trucks but O/O also.

Imagine if you needed a new vehicle and went to buy one but all you could buy were ones that had a new type engine set up. It breaks down, the electronic stops working, and a myriad things happen that means it keeps going to the dealer. Now you can't make money and other things. It may seem like a good deal that it is being done for a SUPPOSED plus for the enviroment but if you make a living with that vehicle is a more than a huge headache. The technology needed a few more years before they could have integrated it for a proper roll out to the public.

Indeed its my opinion, as is yours that the country is not ready for any particular new technology.

This has always been the case with new changes throughout history. There will always be retrograde thinkers that insist on keeping the old, less efficient forms of *whatever is being discussed.*

He's a truck driver for christ sake. He stated facts...and your opinion comes from driving truck for how many years now...or you involved with the US trucking industry as a mechanic, dispatcher, engineer...?

55 years as a trucker on the side from my science degree.

His opinion I have not judged, Kip. Go take a drag on some fresh air.

Every facet of human history has been chock-full of people deeply-rooted and dead set against changing things for the better.

Nice thing about the internet: Anybody can offer an opinion, and support that opinion by citing a website that anybody can edit. I suppose that is better than citing references that nobody has access to, or will probably make the effort to verify.

Yeah, how is that hope and change thingy working out for ya?
