we finally got our K 1 approved:-) However, on the I-797 form it says it was sent to the listed consulate.Yet no consulate is listed?? when i finally was able to reach a human being at the Vermont Service Center, she said that K 1's go directly to the consulate when they send us a I-797. There is a number above my fiancees name, but it does not have GUZ in front of it?

please advise:-) am i to expect another letter from Vermont Service Center with a GUZ number on it???? thanks in advance......todd

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have just received approval for your PETITION for a K-1 visa. This just means that you are now able to complete the process in applying for the actual visa.

Even if your letter states that it was sent to a consulate, ALL petition packets are sent to the NVC (National Visa Center) in New Hampshire for processing before they are sent to the consulate. It takes approximately 14 or 15 business days for the NVC to receive your packet from the Vermont Service Center. You can actually call them in 14 or 15 BUSINESS days and request your case number. I just did that today and got my case number. They can also tell you if your packet has been sent on to the consulate in the beneficiary's country. You will not get another letter from the Vermont Service Center. The next correspondence you receive will be from the consulate and that will actually be sent to your fiancee.

That's the approval notice for the I-129F, and never contains the consulate casefile number.

You can get that by calling into NVC, there's a lot more stuff you can get from NVC and Dos Hotlines - see

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/ - Dodi's posted how to call, and who - further down, I've posted what you can get for status, listed the timeticks, from who and when.

You may wanna consider utilizing the GUZ P3 shortcut, as well - see http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/GUZ_P3_Shortcut

Good Luck !
