Wife going thru DOT treatment

Looks like we drew a short straw; my wife's culture came back positive. So she's trucking in to Ermita from Bulacan daily and that seems to just add to the stress and the illness. We're looking for apartments and room mates now, she has found 1 other lady who shares her status (there were 14 from the day she went for testing that ended up being +). I understand some of the patients share fairly nice condo's for 20-25k and up, between themselves. Does anyone here have any real estate property leads for my wife so she can be close to Ermita and not pay a fortune?

Thanks in advance!

I am sorry that your wife's culture test came back positive and that you two have to go through this. :(

Stay strong and everything will be OK.

Best wishes...

Sorry to hear about your sweetheart's diagnosis.

I agree with Michael. Hang in there. You will get through this.

It will be a wonderful day when she finally has the visa in her hand! :star:

Check Casa Blanca I, Adriatico Street, Ermita, Tel. 5238251, Fax: 5260466, its not as expensive as the one you mentioned above, though the building is old and rusty and in need of renovation, it will do, plus its a walking distance from St. Luke's Clinic.

There are also a lot boarding houses, I lived in Makati before and I live in a boarding house for girls for P3,000 a month, it has a bed and a common shower and toilet, you have to provide your beddings and other stuff, you can't cook though but there are a lot of places to eat outside, plus the building has it's own eatery...

Good question. I'm going to guess that it was four to six weeks. TB is a slow grower.

Thank you for answering..so it means after 6 weeks of waiting you'll be okay then?

I've HEARD, that the 4 to 6 weeks is the danger zone for phone calls from St. Luke's. More than likely after 6 weeks you have not too much to worry, just when you'll get your interview. But, been wrong before and nothing is guaranteed in life. We were on pins and needles but relaxed a bit after the 6 week mark. Best of luck to you and to the OP, my prayers are with you for yours to gain full health back quickly!

I agree with calibob. I have researched this here on VJ because my fiancee and I have been dealing with this since early March 2011 and I have read a few exceptions where some have gone the full eight weeks without a call from SLEC and had positive culture test results. Not many, but a few. And that was just here on VJ.

I agree with calibob and TeddyHoney. You can relax a bit after six weeks...but there are no guarantees.

I have yet to see a case here on VJ where it went the full eight weeks at St. Lukes and the culture turned out positive for TB.

This is the one I read when my fiancee and I were going through this starting back in early March 2011 and I was searching through all the "sputum/culture" stuff here on VJ. I thought there was another. still looking for it..

Thanks for posting the link. It's very interesting.

Did you notice it was St. Lukes who called the patient rather than the patient calling St. Lukes?

Normally, it's the patient who calls St. Lukes. I have read about it before, where St. Lukes called the patient, although not at week eight. In my reading, every time St. Lukes called a patient, it was because the culture was positive.

Now it appears that no matter how far along the patient is in the eight-week culture, if St. Lukes calls you, your culture is positive. it may be rare to get a call from St. Lukes during week eight, but as that thread shows, it can happen.

I hope others will chime in with their experiences.

yeah i realize that too..the doctor also told me that even the eight week process is not yet finished, if ever they see a growing bacteria in your culture, they will call us to immediately start the medication...lets all relax and pray..evrything will be alright in God's help..
