Who puts ads up looking for friends anyway?? :wacko:

Losers.

People post on here all the time looking for people from the same country that live in their area. I would assume they are doing it to make friends. I guess if someone wants to interview people to be their friend so be it, plus what does it say about the people that respond. Pretty much the same as posting a personal for dating.

Yeah, but probably wouldn't even let a person put up something about looking for white friends only.

Well actually you can post whatever you like. I actually just put a post titled 'white friends only', and in the post said that people probably deemed that as racist- and that I would never actually post that- but that someone deemed it appropriate to post 'african american friends only'.

I think its the word 'only' that really get to me. I mean if she has a preference fine, but to single out a particular ethnicity just seems weird. I mean, I could have a whole bunch in common with her for all she knows (although based on her post I doubt it), but she wouldnt be interested just because I was white.

But, each to their own I guess.

Its not about interviewing people to be their friend though. Well maybe for some people- but when you move to a completely new place, and know no-one- and cant drive anywhere to meet anyone (!) what do you do? Just stay having no friends? All I know is I get awful lonely sometimes.

Now I dont know what to think about this. Since moving to the states I am starting to see more and more of this one sided kind of attitude. If I had made a posting asking for 'White Friends Only!' (which I would'nt) Im sure Id get a lot of abuse. Maybe she will as well, I dont know. It just seems like it would be deemed very racist to post 'white people only', but maybe not as much so because she wants african american friends only. But then I think, well if she does just want african american friends, that is her choice and right. I just find it a little sad.

What are your thoughts?

Well, if i only can imagine my ancestors being derooted from their native territories, chained, enslaved for generations, etc, i would understand with no problem: whatever they ask, want, they are entitled to it, especially our understanding. And, if i would be more curious about this article, i would not ask it to mostly white people, but african americans. Cheers!

19-July-07 NVC rcv I-864 form; mail signature rcvd.

22-Aug-07 Ds-230 with documents sent to NVC.

20-Sep - 07 Alien sends NVC Missing document. NVC receives it the 25th.

05-Oct - 07 NVC completed.

16-Jan - 08 Interview, 3 questions asked, visa approved same day, received 1week later approx.

Note: delay due to internal delay, missing document (not rfe) and self procrastination of understanding some abstract terms. C Post not at all reliable (delivery duration, delivery with signature (did not deliver personnaly), and delivery of interview letter rcvd after the interview).

10/26/2006- Consulate receives case (seriously, one month to receive the case?? BS!), and packet 3 that I sent even before they had received the case.

01/02/2007- Interview!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got a 221(g)

01/23/2007- Second Interview. VISA granted!!!

01/29/2007- VISA arrived.... no envelope though. I'm gonna contact them and see what happened this time!

01/31/2007- I'll have to send them one last financial support evidence.

02/01/2007- Evidence sent

02/02/2007- Evidence received by Consulate

02/06/2007- Consulate sends envelope!

02/07/2007- Envelope received!!!

02/10/2007- Flew to the USA!!!!!!

04/17/2007- Wedding day!!!

I dunno, I guess to each his own...

When I moved out here from the UK I was counting on my new job to bring me friends. Unfortunately I got a job at a manufacturing company where there were practically no woman! I decided to post an ad on Craigs List looking for friends and now I have four! Two other english girls and two german girls. Really, dont knock it until you have tried it. My life is so much happier now that I have some good girl friends here.

And in response to the original post, yes, I agree, it makes me so angry that we have to be so politically correct about everything but if its the other way around we dont have a leg to stand on! I couldnt beleive it when I found out there were black schools and a black engineers society, etc, #######!!!! This world is so backward. Same thing goes for religion. We cant have a school nativity play cause it might offend non christians yet we can have mosques and god knows what else everywhere! Go figure!

As for the original post....

It's perfectly acceptable to post an ad for friends of any sort - Hindu only, Mexican only, Gay women who like Ewes only, or Ex-military gun fanatics only; except "white only".

Saying 'White Only' (or 'Men Only') about anything is taboo. The sons will forever pay for the crimes of their fathers.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Did most people who found their spouse online actually go LOOKING for an online significant other? Doubt it. My hubby and I (before we fell in love) used to snicker at online couples when we first started chatting. But to go online to find friends, it's kind of sad really.
