Hello everyone, I am wondering if anyone might know the process to get a social security card and how long it takes to get one. According to a new law now anyone who wants to get married has to have a social security card. So if anyone might know i would appreciate it,,,thanks :)

Best case scenerio is 3 weeks. 2 to wait for your info to show up in the SSN system and 1 to apply/recieve the card. My wife's took about a month. Having said that, I wouldn't count on less than 2 months.

You could get married in a state that doesn't need a SSN right away then have some other type of ceremony at home.

What new law? Can you provide a link? I don't believe that sorry. Because otherwise tourists can't get married here and Vegas would lose a LOT of money :P

You can get SSS card with stamp from immigration (90) period. Wait two weeks so you show up in system. Card came in about 10 days. In AZ you cannot get DL without SSS and Immigration paperwork, even if you get one it will expire when your K1 expires in 90 days. You can get married without SSS card, Las Vegas needs valid passport and from USC ID. You can even pre-apply online and show up with their tracking number and ID, easy. Guide is on VJ.

When i called the Court House in my City thats what the lady told me :(

the lady could be a moron (wouldn't be the first). But in any event, 10 days after you arrive you can go to the SSA and apply for your SSN. You need more than 14 days left on your I-94 to get it. No problem. A K1 is eligible for a SSN.
