I have an inherited disease - polycystic kidney disease which also causes high blood pressure, so my Dad and one of my brothers has it too. It is autosomal dominant. I can not get private health insurance because of this pre-existing condition, nor can I get life insurance. I am currently without insurance, as I just got laid off from my job.

You didn't get term life insurance from your previous employer? You can almost always keep that policy after you leave for a higher premium.

Actually, I do have it. I need to call them. Not sure what happens if I don't have an income at the moment.

I'm so sorry. Can you apply for disability which would qualify you for Medicaid?

Hmmm. Don't think so. I am moving back to Michigan, and will soon have some more online teaching work, and will see what I can do. Maybe I will be able to get medicaid for a while, but not sure. Not sure what the income requirements are.

I did the same thing. I think it is my right knee. The problem was I was working out too hard imo...The day it happened I ran 2 miles in about a 6 to 7 minute per mile pace. Then I immediately went to play basketball. I turned a certain way and heard a pop and fell to the ground. I don't think it would have happened if I skipped the sprint-running...

I didn't go to the doctor. Just limped home and it healed within 1 week.

Since then I have re-sprained the same knee a good 4 or 5 times. At least once (maybe twice) thinking I could play basketball again. One time fishing. One time hopping out of a boat. One time throwing a football.

Realized that I can never play any sports again unless I get surgery.

But it doesn't affect me day to day. I can run no problem I just am careful on the 90 degree sidewalk turns.

What amazes me is the professional athletes can have the same thing happen and they are back in 1 week.

Did you have it stress tested to see if you tore the ACL? If you have almost no lateral stability, then it's torn. I was under an HMO at the time and the outpatient surgery was under $4,000 compared to the original bill of about $26,000. If you have insurance, I'd recommend getting it replaced. Ligament from my hamstring was used and from what I've read, that seems to the best method.

It takes longer than a week. I was on crutches for almost a month and had about 2 weeks of physical therapy. It was painful, but the arthroscopic surgery left almost no scarring. I'd highly recommend not putting it off because every time you feel the knee give, you are damaging the meniscus (padding) and some of that is irreparable.

What else could it be? If I pivot quickly my knee will re-sprain. Give me 3 minutes on the basketball court and I'll be on the floor with a sprained knee.

I was maybe 23 at the time...It hurt really badly and I wasn't sure if when I looked down at my leg if my leg would be in a different position (like upper leg in one direction and lower leg in another). I was a little relieved when I saw my leg was intact.

Two of the guys carried me to a couch where I just kinda sat there for 10 minutes.

I rested, used ice, and got a knee brace (which helped alleviate the pain). I could barely walk for a day or two...Put no pressure on the leg, and hopped around.

On the 3rd day I was able to limp around with light pressure on my leg.

By day 5 I just walked a little funny.

After a week I was nearly fully covered 100%.

I rolled my ankle (sprained) at least 10 times in my basketball career and was always fully recovered within 3 days. Just severe pain for the first day.

Of course nowadays I would see a doctor and get pain meds but back then it really was nothing to me.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

It's hard to know without a stress test, but yeah, my knee had little to know lateral stability once my ACL was torn and it was a big pop sound when it happened.

Nothing

Private Insurance

Under 30.

I did go without health insurance for about 5 months between UK and US employment a few years ago. (I wasn't eligible for 3 months and then something odd about the dates made it about 5 in all)
