Thanks guys! This is probably a stupid question, does my SO have to carry the X-ray she did at Cho Ray Hospital on her at the POE or can she check that in into luggage? Same goes for the original I-129F they returned to us. I assume no is the answer for both but just wanted to make sure. She will of course carry the brown visa package and her passport.

Spent all weekend cleaning my place up, trying to get a jump start on AOS, booked civil ceremony, planning a bigger ceremony, looking at ESL schools, etc... Man, there's a lot to do! I can't wait to chill out and spend time with my SO.

One more for the road:

P.S. I promise to post my wrap-up soon!

Pack the x-rays in her luggage. She won't need them at the POE. In all likelihood, she'll never need them again, but don't toss them out. My step-son's x-rays came in handy at the civil surgeon's office. He had a borderline reaction to the TST test, and the CS wanted to have a look at the x-rays just to make sure he didn't have a TB infection.

The only things she needs at the POE are her passport, the sealed envelope, and a properly filled out I-94 form, which she'll receive on the plane.

Sure thing. Do you know any restaurants in the city that make good Central Vietnam style food? My step-daughter loves bun bo hue, but all the restaurants around here make it "Saigon style", according to her. Dunno exactly what that means. But my wife definitely wants to check out those produce markets in Chinatown!

hue food is probably my favorite. bun bo`, banh bot loc n banh beo (it's all in the fish sauce). surprised there's no good bun bo up in nocal  . the viets not representing up there.

There's a couple of good central Vietnam style restaurants in San Jose, but that's a 45 minute drive from where I live. It's a long way to go just for lunch or dinner. My wife has relatives in San Jose, so we go down there a few times a month. Sometimes we go to the restaurants, but more often than not we end up eating at her relative's houses.

There's also a bunch of restaurants in the area we haven't checked out yet. We've been to most of the ones that are within a short hop from our house. Almost all of them serve bun bo hue, but none of them were up to my step-daughter's standards. Surprisingly, with all the VN restaurants around here, her two favorites are a Korean BBQ and tofu house, and Mongolian BBQ.

Hey Jim,

I think we should add a San Jose trip on the to do list. I know there has to be some good Hue eats there.

My SO also likes Korean food a lot. I think there is an obsession with Vietnamese and Korean stuff. Her friends went to Korea this past week. We ate Korean hot pot in HCMC and her family loves Korean dramas. Also heard a lot of Vietnamese do plastic surgery there.

Quann, did they get the visa okay?

Hey Jim,

Definitely got to do Century Plaza and Lion Center.

Century Plaza is a medium size shopping mall which is entirely Vietnamese shops. Most of the restaurants in the food court serve VN food, and there are several VN restaurants in and around the mall. Just stay away from TK Noodle and you're good to go! Century Plaza is bigger than MaxiMark in Saigon!

Lion Plaza is a large strip mall about 85% VN shops, with a few Chinese and Korean shops mixed in. Book stores, DVD and audio CD shops, furniture, groceries, herbal medicines, tea shops, etc. and a circular outdoor food court.

My wife's sister and niece/nephew live about five minutes from both shopping centers. They know every VN restaurant in San Jose. Just tell them what you'd like and they'll know where to find it!

My wife's nephew Binh knows where all the "good" ca phe shops are in San Jose.
