Report: Israel Agrees to Negotiate Along Pre-1967 Border Lines

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel's prime minister is reportedly making a dramatic shift in policy toward the Palestinians.

An Israeli TV station says Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to negotiate the borders of a Palestinian state based on the case-fire line that marks off the West Bank.

Until now, Netanyahu has refused to spell out his plan for negotiating the border.

A senior Israeli official isn't confirming outright that the prime minister is now willing to adopt the cease-fire line as a starting point. But the official says Israel is willing to try new formulas to restart peace talks based on a proposal made by President Barack Obama.

In May, Obama proposed negotiations based on the pre-1967 line, with agreed swaps of territory between Israel and a Palestinian state. Netanyahu reacted angrily, insisting that Israel wouldn't withdraw from all of the West Bank -- although that wasn't what Obama proposed.

Now, according to the TV report, Netanyahu is basically accepting that framework -- offering to trade Israeli territory on its side of the line for West Bank land where its main settlements are located.

Palestinian officials say they haven't received that type of proposal from Israel.

Something has got to give. Like Jews, Palestinians have not forgotten. Like most Palestinians, I have a standing reservation for the right of return. As for eating anyone alive, I don't want to see that, but there are a lot more of us with our noses figuratively pressed against the door when it's forced open then most people realize.

If this is true, you got what you wanted. Israel will soon cease to exist and the Jews will be on the run again.

Does anyone think Israel is actually going to give up that land ? If so, I have a bridge to sell ya.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Israel needs a moderate leader again. Unfortuantely, their crazies keep assassinating them... (F)
