Interview in Ciudad Juarez

My husband has his interview tomorrow. I have heard that they usually tell you if you are approved before you leave the interview. Is this true or just a rumor?

They can.

The Investigative Officer (IO) is responsible for ensuring that the petitioner and the recipient are in compliance. They have the authority to approve or deny. That's the delegation assigned to them. They operate within the regulations, but in short they'll have a "gut feeling" whether they will approve or not. If they feel good about him, they can approve on the spot.

Good luck. Tell him to relax and be himself...they see a lot of people, and can pick up on BS pretty quick.

Care,

Bill

Terrific advice about being cool. CDJ is one of the easiest consulates to get through, and it processes more visas than any other in the world, so they can smell BS a mile away, but if you play EXACTLY by their rules, they are easy and cordial.

Well, my brother in law (who interviewed in Juarez) asked if he was approved or not and he was told by the consul he needed to wait until he got his DHL package to find out.

Good luck and please be careful down in ol' CDJ. There ARE official gummint travel advisories for down in the streets down there. Fact is, CDJ has THE highest murder rate in Mexico.

"Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua: The situation in the state of Chihuahua, specifically Ciudad Juarez, is of special concern. Ciudad Juarez has the highest murder rate in Mexico. Mexican authorities report that more than 3,100 people were killed in Ciudad Juarez in 2010. Three persons associated with the Consulate General were murdered in March, 2010. You should defer non-essential travel to Ciudad Juarez and to the Guadalupe Bravo area southeast of Ciudad Juarez. U.S. citizens should also defer non-essential travel to the northwest quarter of the state of Chihuahua. From the United States, these areas are often reached through the Columbus, NM, and Fabens and Fort Hancock, TX, ports-of-entry. In both areas, U.S. citizens have been victims of narcotics-related violence. There have been incidents of narcotics-related violence in the vicinity of the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua. "

Did they keep his passport--if so, it's a good sign--if not, he was most likely refused. Were there any immigration violations in his past--if so, he was almost certainly refused.

If the question was for me, they kept his passport @ consulate. When he picked up the DHL package it contained only an Administrative Review note . After 2 or 3 months his visa was printed. Perhaps that is why they told him he needed to wait for DHL package to find out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does the petitioner need to go to the interview too? or just the beneficiary? anyone know?

Every consulate is different. In Dominican Rep. It is required for the usc to be there. In Juarez the Us Citizen spouse is not allowed to be present during the interview.
