Chrome has added the option last year to add extensions, but it's still lightly coded...it loads pages up quick. No tool bars, etc.. just plain and simple unless you choose to add the extensions which slow it down.

Agreed. However, there are other things that may be considered frills, such as Chrome's tight integration with Google products (gmail, picasa, docs, etc) that make the browser especially nice. Not to mention the built in PDF viewer & Flash player.

The Tom's hardware article you linked to seems to suggest IE9 is better than Chrome. Not sure what they are smoking over there, but IE9 is the same bloated, standards-shucking POS as its predecessors. IE is always a nightmare to deal with when developing web apps, and IE9 is no exception.

I run Mint. I think it's nice.

I haven't played with Mint, so I'll have to claim ignorance there. Some other developers at my office like Mint as well, though. My last attempt at switching to a Linux-based desktop OS was Ubuntu 10.1. I found it to be clunky and struggled with various driver-related issues. For example, support for many Epson scanners is buggy at best. Hibernate/standby support was totally unreliable & I found Ubuntu to drain my battery significantly faster than XP. Biometrics support is pretty much non-existent as well. Again, this was my experience with Ubuntu specifically.

For anyone else: linux mint is not to be confused with mint.com, an incredibly shitty online budget tool of epic & historic proportions.

IE users are less able to apply the browser concepts they learn on IE to Firefox or Chrome or any other browser. So other browsers confuse them and they come running back to IE.

I guess people just stick with what they know and its reflected in their iq.

Conservatives :-P

Nope. Data retention policies at my job don't allow that.

i got a friend thats been going on & on about OPERA. anybody use it?

I did, a few years ago. They were great for torrent searches as it had one integrated in it. They were the first to have tabs too I believe. I haven't heard anything good about it in a while though.

I know the mobile Opera browser sucks, IMO. Never had a reason to use Opera on my PC/laptop since I'm happy w/ Chrome.

A new frill offered by Chrome, as of today: http://chrome.blogspot.com/2011/08/instant-pages-on-google-chrome.html

My experience has been that most of the people using IE are in a work situation and have no choice. At home its firefox or chrome.

Apple is a feel good buy IMO. They have a anti-big guy image they're trying to sell besides they look oh so pretty. Apple is more expensive with cooler tools but less flexibility.

Internet Explorer have a lower IQ that people who chose other browsers appears to have been an elaborate hoax.

A number of media organisations, including the BBC, reported on the research, put out by Canadian firm ApTiquant.

It later emerged that the company's website was only recently set up and staff images were copied from a legitimate business in Paris.

It is unclear who was behind the stunt.

The story was reported by many high profile organisations including CNN, the Daily Mail, the Telegraph and Forbes.

The title of that piece does, but if you look at the last page (conclusion) you will see they gave Chrome the heads up over the rest of the browsers. But ya, that title is deceiving imo.

That was a pretty rotten thing to do.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
