Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

It sure does sound unprofessional to me. I would definitely be asking for the money back for the chicken pox vaccine. It is not necessary if you had chicken pox as a child.

The main thing is, it's over and you are one step closer to your objective.

Good luck with the rest of the process.

I had the chicken pox just a month before I went to get by medical done and I still had to have the varicella because my doctor refused to say that I had it. His reason: everyone who gets it as an adult is usually vewry sick and I was not sick enough. My options were to test for the virus (immunity) or do the shot. I did the shot to get it over with. By the way, I gave 2 kids that were staying with me at the time the chicken pox so I am 100% sure that I had it.

Anyway, the cost of my medical totalled $350 plus the cost of the chest xray. I had the BCG vaccine so I had a positive PPD test.

Regards.

I had my vaccination form filled out in Winnetka, Chicago. The doctor took my blood to test if I am immuned to chicken pox or not instead of giving me the shot, turned out I am already immuned to it, so I didnt need the shot. The test + filling out the form = $60. I had good experience there though, very nice doctor and nurse :luv:

Anyway, the cost of my medical totalled $350 plus the cost of the chest xray.

Actually this is a good point, did many people have to pay for their chest X-ray and HIV/Syphalis test? I ask because my Doctor sent me to the hospital to get these done, and the hospitial simply billed my insurance company (who paid). Would have cost me several hundred more otherwise.

Yes, we had to pay. All of our tests were done at the office of the civil surgeon and they didn't accept any insurance. I'm wondering if I can file an out-of-network claim with my insurance company.

My insurance didn't pay for my medical, but they did for the tests, I guess because the hospital already had my details on file (I had an ER visit a few years back) and they automatically billed my insurance company for the visit. The biggest surprise was the insurance company paid for the visit considering I didn't even pay a co-pay. I think I got lucky.

Dr. Nick actually registered David as a patient so that he could bill the ins. company for his HIV/Syph test, and thankfully didn't make him have the chest x-ray again. Hell, we brought the x-ray with us when we came back for the TB test to be read, and he was like "Those are too big to fit in our letter-size file folders! You'll have to hold onto them."

My examination was $150, and I didn't get any shots because I have an immunization card.

All shots were taken because the school I was attending needed it.

However, the "varicella" part on my card was not dated or marked, the nurse who noticed it just asked if I had chicken pox before. I said yes, then she just signed that part on my card, and stated "childhood."

I guess I lucked out!

Maybe you should put the name of the doc on this board so people know.

Sorry to hear about your ghetto medical experience :( . I’d say you got ripped off alright and I’d agree with the (hilarious) “Ghetto Doctor” label, it seems to fit.

I don’t know about everyone else but, I came in on a K1 and got stocked up on all my shots from my Doctor back home. I did the medical in Scotland which cost somewhere around $250 or so.

We had to get the medical supplement filled out by a civil surgeon in Orlando for our AOS and it turned out I was missing a shot, think it was mumps even though I had an MMR jab back home. My (non ghetto  ) Doctor here in Florida administered the shot and we faxed the civil surgeon back the confirmation and they sent out our supplement. Total cost for the supplement was around $50 if I remember correctly. :D

I went to Dr. Sun, an immigration doctor located inside Mercy Hospital in Baltimore. The place was spotless. Sometimes you need to do a little research. There was a list of a dozen immigration doctors in the Baltimore area. Dr. Sun even answers his own phone when his secretary is busy. Extremely nice man who was himself an immigrant in 1964 and does his best for other immigrants.

The fact I paid for a second exam stinks because he could have just updated the information for half the price. I chose to be safe and have a second medical exam done.
