i know a few folk here use this site for transferring funds and i went to sign up this morning and got stumped by one required field. they ask for a reference (i believe that's what it was called) company and phone number. what are they looking for? i've not got a job hence no company and no investment company except for my pension plan & rrsp people.

Any ideas as to what to put?

thanks loads

k

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I just signed up last week and went through the phone interview. It was easy, basic security checks. For reference, I just put my bank's name and they were fine with that.

I'm just waiting to get the go-ahead so I can start transferring $$$ now! Hopefully it works as good as flames has been saying! :D

I have used it numerous times, at least on 10 occasions. Very easy to do, and its almost like gambling when it comes to the exchange rate!! When you get to the final page, you see the exchange rate, and a timer counting down from 60 seconds, and a refresh button!! So u see the rate, you can take that rate and walk away, or hit refresh and there may be a new rate, better or worse!! I was on there for awhile this morning conducting a trade. Moving over part my RRSP $$. I went the risky way and choose to keep hitting refresh. The rate doesnt move that much, so if your moving over just a bit of $$ it won't matter!!

Once I had the phone interview and thay had al lthe banking info, I think my acct was activated the next day. Once you complete a trade it takes 3-4 business day to work!!

I occasionaly stil lget Cdn cheques. I mail them back to my folks, who have my Cdn bank acct card, and they deposit the $$ into the acct, then I transfer with Customhouse. Enjoy

Good idea about the bank card. I was thinking of doing something like that and leaving the information with my mother. Either a joint bank account or a bank card.

Works well. takes about a week to mail it back to Sask. One is taking a bit of a risk with the exchange rate flunctuating.
