When we moved house, we killed our landline through QWEST and bought an OOMA device (similar to a Magic Jack).

So the phone line is now free (though I buy $10 of credit every 6 weeks to call the UK)

But QWEST were determined to keep us as internet customers, so they slashed our monthly fee to just $12. Don't know the speed off hand, but it streams movies perfectly.

Our only cable option out here is U.S. Cable (horrifically expensive) so we went with DISH instead. Decent package (including a sports upgrade) for $42 a month.

$8.00/mo. - Netflix subscription (streaming).

~$25.00 - DSL/HSI through Verizon. Used to be pretty quick but has become slow as hell since October 2011. But we're just too busy to spend serious hours troubleshooting and running circles with CS. Will be looking into better options soon, though. For some reason Verizon won't install FIOS in our building...perhaps it has to do with it being an old building? Whatever the reason is I find it odd.ph34r.gif

Are the satellite services - Dish or DirectT- for internet/TV worth it? Do they work in apartment buildings (we have a balcony and face due East)??helpsmilie.gif

June 26, 2012 - The Hubbs received his 10-year Permanent Residency Card (aka THE Greencard) in the mail today!




At long last, this highly stressful leg of our journey has come to a close - for now - and we couldn't be more grateful and appreciative for all the tremendous help and support here on VJ! Without VisaJourney I doubt we would be where my husband and I are today! Thanks to all!

What she said, except that I got rid of my Netflix (lost patience with them during the price hike snafu) and my Verizon high-speed internet has remained very fast. But TOTAL ditto re: Comcast. I have an ancient TV and a digital converter box which is complete ####### and generally picks up approximately 1 channel at any given time. So, I mostly watch shows on Hulu, the actual network's site (Lifetime), or via DVD from the public library. Beats dealing with Comcast and paying $$$$.

We just changed our services. We only have Comcast as an option. ( my k1 isn't approved, I'm just visiting)

We have home phone, 30mbps Internet, 160 channel+ cable for $140 a month. I am not sure if that is a good or bad deal... Someone enlIghten me?!

That is about the right price for the triple option of phone, internet and cable. That is about what I pay in New Jersey.

Oh wow, I can't believe it's so expensive in the US! I guess internet/phone/TV is the only thing that's cheaper in France (with cheese). Here we pay 30€ (less than 40$) a month for high speed internet (modem/wifi router came for free) + unlimited international free phone + about 200 TV channels... it would be 39€ with fiber optic connection.

Aussie net/phone is fairly similar in price to US if not a bit more expensive :(
