Hi everyone!

I got my stamp yesterday! I still don't know why I needed it though.

Whole process took me a month. 08/10: I applied, 09/13: I got my passport stamped. - USD 23, - a few hours of bureaucracy.

If this fr... stamp doesn't guarantee me hassle-free departure at the airport, I don't know what does

Thanks for commenting! :star:

No, I don't think it's required. I will have to do so (give up my passports - ID card and international passport) whenever I get US citizenship.

You will not have to give these up to the US and the US will not tell your country when you have US citizenship. If YOU tell them, that is your choice.

It's not 100% legal though, right? I don't know about Ukraine, but under the Kyrgyz law you are not suppose to have two citizenships. :innocent:

It's to early for me to think about it, but thanks for sharing your experince!

None of them really recognize multiple citizenships, but what it generally means that in the USA, your Kyrgyz citizenship will be superceded by your American one and vice versa--i.e., the US can't help you out in Kyrgyzstan.

Doing everything 100% by the law? Are you posting in the right regional forum? ;)

Ukraine's law is so vague as to be difficult to understand and enforcement depends on the political undercurrents at the time. The law against two citizenships requires the order of the President and no one knows if the current President has ordered it.

Really, the only advantage to keeping the Ukrainian citizenship is some tax advantage for property ownership and being able to travel to Russia without a visa.

Wasn't Ukraine's law an anti-Kremlin move, i.e., so Russia couldn't issue passports to Ukrainians like they did South Ossetians?

That is the belief. The law requires the President to impose the law. Yushenko did and now it is unclear if it still is as Yanokovich has been silent thus far. The reason was seemingly to prevent the largely Russian eastern population from obtaining Russian citizenship and then asking Russia to "defend them" against Kiev.

It seems mostly much a-do about very little and there is no active attempt to run down and deny citizenship to Ukrainians who have obtained other citizenships, Technically it is sort of illegal.

Oddly enough there is very little use for the Ukrainian citizenship once the US citizenship is attained. US citizens can visit Ukraine for much longer than we ussually do without a visa. So once Alla became a citizen she could safely tuck away her Ukraine passport and really never need it except to visit Russia
