Silliness. I hated it when Democrats passed the Clinton Tax Increase with no votes to spare, and when they passed Obamacare the same way. I was also upset when Republicans did it with the Senior Drug Bill, and now this #######. Well, at least it's all theater this time. There really is no need for a bill yet. The Senate already has enough vehicles to send a bill back to the House with an amendment, so until the Senate does "something", we are where we are.

Yes they did. The Socialists said the bill dead on arrival with the balanced budget attached but they will strip it off the bill in the Senate and add some spending to pay off their friends then lob it back to the House. By then it is vote for it or default. Wonder what will happen.whistling.gif

Senate tells Boehner in bi-partisan vote to take his tea party joke of a bill and shove it.

Boehner bill tea party?

Hardly....

but try again.

Well, anyone who's fiscally conservative wouldn't support any of the jokes of bills being passed around right now.

Senator Reid invokes cloture on his own bill and fills the tree, effectively preventing any Senate votes until Sunday, 10:00 am EDT. Senator McConnell offers to hold the cloture vote right now. Senator Reid declines.

You haven't paid attention. The Boehner bill was not voted on until the tea party forced their amends onto it. Remember Boehner being short the votes yesterday? What did they add to get to the 218 votes? That's right, Tea Party Freak nonsense.

I don't think all Republicans will vote against Harry Reid's plan. I think enough House Democrats will vote yes and only a minority of Republicans will be needed to pass it. There are still enough moderate Republicans left who won't be put into jeopardy for voting to end the crisis (I think the opposite is true of them) and they will be allowed to vote yes. Guys like McCain are going to have to work over their counterparts in the house because I'm pretty sure there will be some Senate Republicans voting yes too. So, it will kind of be an "everybody wins" scenario. All Tea Party candidates can vote no, all super liberals can vote no, and the plan can be called bi-partisan and bi-house which means the President wins too.

That sounds ideal. I think 20-30 people need to jump ship?

About. There are 193 Democrats, so if all Democrats plus 2 Independents vote yes, you need 23 Republicans. Realistically I think they have to allow at least 50 Democrats like Nancy Pelosi to vote no out of principal, so that means you need about 75 Republicans to make it look like everyone stood on principal and get the debt raised. 75 out of 240. Reid and McCain spend the weekend with Boehner figuring out how to get that done.

If this goes down like this, I'm going to know this whole thing was a big show from the beginning.

Right now, Reid doesn't have the 60 senators he needs to get his plan voted on. That is the reason he invoked cloture today, so that he has 36 hours to buy a few more Republican senators.
