What the hell is going on in Iowa? Iowastategasprices.com reporting $1.96 gasoline!

Well shoot, there's another reason to watch gas prices.. I'm envious of all you cheepos, btw. ORegon = $2.79 still at the pump for regular.

BUT, winter's a-coming and I've got to fill the heating oil tank! Try having to buy 600 gals at a whack and you can appreciate someone gagging for $1.50 a gal again.... (diesel price is about the same as regulas gas).

Do you know they charge even MOREfor recycled donut oil (biodiesel)?

i feel your pain, i prepaid my propane at $1.59 a gallon just a month ago, 500 gallons :crying:

That is CHEAP. We just prepaid at 2.44 a gallon. Total cost 1,165 to heat a 2bed house all winter!

Strange, if the dems were in power it would be right wing conspiracy theorists. Sometimes I think the pundits around here are bobble head dolls or something.

nope, conservatives understand it's a supply/demand issue

If Bush is conservative, why does he change everything?

According to the newspaper, gas prices have nothing to do with oil prices... unless the price rises. So, I have no idea how supply and demand have anything to do with it since it was said that there was more gas at the time of the article than when prices started going over $1.50 in early 2005 and doubled within 5 months. Ah, but that would indicate that if there is more supply than demand that they can charge more. That must be part of that "bad education system" we must correct because, when I learned it, supply and demand worked backwards. "No Child Left Behind" should change all that.

I am in the oldest city in Iowa (which Kerry won, though the presidency was decided before Iowa had a vote. Bush didn't win fairly if most Democrats voted by absentee ballot anyway. Those votes weren't counted, the way I understand it, and Democrats were encouraged to vote that way. At the voting booth, I got a "my vote counted" sticker... ) and gas prices were 2 dollars and 38 cents last night. I am happy to see ethanol (from corn) is back to the cheaper gas price. For several months it was actually more expensive than regular! How that happens? I will likely never know. Iowa is a leader in corn production... :(

It'd be cool if lawnmower/chainsaw manufacturers would take a cue from the car companies that are creating hybred cars and someone in government gives them tax breaks as well as people buying them.

As far as I can see, hybrids don't really get significant gas mileage improvements over their non-hyrid counterparts. The Toyota Camry Hybrid bosts 40 mpg in the city, but at least here in California, most of the miles are done on the highway, where its mileage is 38 mpg. The non-hybrid Camry gets 33 mpg on the highway, only 5 mpg less. As for Fuel Efficiency, if that it the overall goal, you might as well buy one of the New Volkswagen Golfs that get 44 mpg hwy which aren't even hybrids. The most efficient hybrid (Insight) gets 60 mpg and it's got problems. Source

We don't own a hybrid, and our 7 year old car gets 40 mpg. Our neighbor owns a hybrid and she gets 35mpg going the same route.

we own a Prius (Toyota hybrid) and we are currently averaging close to 50mpg. On a 10 gallon tank, it's pretty sweet.

Oh, and gas here in Tulsa is around $2.26 right now, having dropped considerably in the last two weeks.

Some people can get 90 miles per gallon in a Prius by driving it differently. I forget what its called.. drive and glide I think. Id buy a Prius if I needed a new car. I like the 5 door hatchback concept. Plus I like the cool dashboard and the low emissions.

Or buy a 2003 Tercel for 25% the price and pocket the savings. You have to drive 120,000 miles before you break even by buying a hybrid.
