My understanding is that some folks believed new members were wondering into that forum early in their membership, prior to getting their feet wet on the site, and getting overwhelmed. This lead to a few issues. This would be one easy way to resolve this concern (limit posting there until they have had some time on the site).

I prefer the password-protected approach

and

since it's only a clickie thing to turn on in the configuration tab -

what's keeping you from shifting it the way I've decribed these past 4 months?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Bad approach.

Instead -

PASSWORD PROTECT IT -

give over the password to ONE MOD -

then announce that mod's username -

then keep track of who the mod gave the password to.

Once a week - you go trolling (fishing) for miscreants - those that are there that were NEVER issued the password - and give them a 10 day suspension for coercing their buddies into giving up the password.

Sounds like a wild west fantasy with a cyber twist.

There should be more leniency in the type of content that is allowed to be posted and the interaction between members. In other words, not so family friendly. Over 18 with adult conversation. No nudity or vulgarity, but let people speak their mind within reason. Give folks more slack in that forum to be themselves and speak their minds. Instead of catering to one or two people who may be easily offended by something that most other people aren't, cater to the majority who want to be there.

Perfect description of CEHST

and

perfect usage on the password only feature of this web portal software.

Oh, you poor thing. Has Ewok been ignoring you for FOUR WHOLE MONTHS? Are you so used to being taken seriously by the sycophants who surround you in real life that your sense of entitlement has extended here?

a password protected forum is already a feature of this web portal software - what you've described requires additional programming.

You would think he would be able to green light accounts specifically into the restricted areas instead of a password.

Whatever is easier to implement.

My preference would be for the users who are able to downvote to be able to see what was hidden (and no one else).

and then it becomes a popularity contest based on political view as in the +1 thing. On the weekends the more liberal would be trashed and during the week the more conservative. The down vote would be like one massive reporting button, INMHO

So? You care that much that one of your posts becomes hidden? They can always tweak the number to cross the hidden threshold.

That i know. The living in Cebu site, has sub forums that are by Mod approval only or so I hear. Also on that site you have to make " I think it's 50 +/_ I forget posts, before you can have a regular account"

Now this I would consider a unwarranted personal attack. Maybe they are joking who knows, but the problem is this is just my opinion and my opinion could change tomorrow

Just as an example

One person actually posted that the forum is too full of women who are "b*tches" and who ate urine for breakfast and they are the root of the problem, and that got a lot of plusses. No one sees a problem with that?

This was one of the more disgusting things I've seen on VJ for a while.

Notable: we have few to no posts/topics for many months having to do with how wimminz are the worst (unless they are hot and available), and then all of a sudden... Part of me thinks it's the Elliott Rodger thing, but not completely, I'd hazard.

I suggest doing away with the idea that moderators decide what is or isn't racism.

YES! I was suspended for pointing out the racism of a Dutch character named "Zwarte Piet". I was suspended for racism, while in fact deriding racism. Go figure.

Go to a community moderation model instead.

NO! Then it's nothing but a popularity contest, and no longer a fair exchange of ideas.
